No, you don't have to run in the caucus but it's disingenuous to not even run and then try to say you are a Democrat on par with the candidates who voters actually picked in the Dem caucus. Paul is an independent and I'll vote accordingly.

Those horrible independents.

You can think they are horrible or not, but my beef is Paul's misrepresenting.

He's not a teacher in APS anymore if that matters to you. He has no connection to APS anymore, so no skin in the game.

Also I don't like that he's misrepresenting himself as a Democrat when he didn't even run for the Dem endorsement.

OMG.
First of all, he resigned from APS so he could run for SB.
Second of all, he left APS for DC public schools -- that should say something about his dedication to both teaching and running for APS SB.
Third of all, BS on not being a Democrat just because he didn't want to suck-up and kiss rings.
Fourth of all, read his posts on AEM. He is a dem.

Nope, he's claiming to be a Dem without even entering the Dem caucus. He could split the progressive vote and we could end up with Rives.

The likelihood of that happening is about zero. Are you new to Arlington? If he splits the vote enough, he'll be one of the victors.

He could be, but it could be him and Rives. that's a terrible outcome.

Anyone who really cares about students and who is truly progressive would be doing everything possible to keep Rives out. That's not Paul.

Whut?

PP. He knows that the only real way to win is to be on the D sample ballot. He chose not to participate in the caucus process, but then tried to force the D's to include him on their sample ballot by claiming to be a Dem himself. Trust me, I hate that the Arlington Democrats do this caucus, but he tried to game the system. I have no real idea whether he's a Dem or Independent.

No, the Democrats are gaming the system. School board elections in VA are non partisan. The Democrats should not be handing out sample ballots with school board members listed.

Here's an idea: decide who you're voting for by researching the candidates and their positions instead of who ACDC tells you to vote for.

Ok, I cannot possibly bring myself to vote for Paul. He has the most stupid campaign slogan I've ever heard, leading me to conclude that he's an idiot.

VOTE FOR PAUL IN THE FALL!!

No way will I vote for someone who thinks that slogan belongs on a campaign sign.

I’m voting for Weiss and Kathleen. They have been by far the most thoughtful in responding to the issues I care about.

As to the person who thinks Weiss is disingenuous for identifying as a dem without running in the caucus, he explained (and I believe) that the SB vote to increase compensation made it feasible for him to retire from Virginia schools to run. At that point it was too late for him to enter the caucus. The timeline and logic checked out to me.

I am sorry you feel that way. Not voting for someone because you don’t like the slogan?!

To add to the discussion about why he missed the deadline to get the democratic nomination, he was providing care for his 100 year old Mother who was dying. After she passed, it allowed him to have the time and energy to be able to dedicate himself to making a positive change for APS via the School Board.

He didn't get into the race until after the party had made its endorsement. He certainly would have sought endorsement had he decided to run earlier.

I'm voting Kathleen and Paul.

You have no idea if he’s a Dem? There isn’t a test for political affiliation. People can identify with whichever party they choose, or none— no proof required.

Yes, anyone not backed by APE would be fine.

Whoever has the support of APE will get my vote, possibly. I like to write-in for these useless roles.
Anonymous
Wait you guys have multiple candidates for each spot? Lucky. Here in Alexandria things are so dysfunctional we only have as many candidates as there are open seats, so everyone wins (even if they are terrible).
