What schools are building new and exciting new spaces?

UMD is constant construction. Buildings, train tracks, STEM buildings, athletic facilities and monster off campus housing.

if I were a college, I'd be thinking a lot more about buying campuses or office buildings and a lot less about building. I had to fact check that 3 billion number about GU, but it's accurate and crazy.

oh that is great!

Honestly I’d rather have fewer new buildings and pay less in tuition.

But they have to cycle out some of the poorly built 70s and 80s stuff with mold issues or whatever. Cheaper to build new

Last March, there was an anonymous donor that gave $30M that will be used for the renovation of a building that will house the Global Research Institute, Institute for Integrative Conservation and Whole of Government Center of Excellence.

Then just a few weeks ago, there was a $100M donation for the Marine Sciences department.

I've got a sophomore there now who says the construction is so distracting and they will not see the results until after they graduate.
Hopefully the housing will at least ease up next year with the new dorms.

I've got a sophomore at WM, too. I think they will see some benefits as the construction now will be finishing up by next fall. ISC exterior will be done, the new dorms and dining section will be done, Muscarelle will be complete. Construction will move to the old Campus center area which will at least keep it to the edge of campus. I think needed demolition will occur over the summer.

This is, in fact, what Georgetown is doing. Lots of acquisitions downtown. 125 E is an exception as a new build.

My daughter was accepted into their dance program and new dance spaces were definitely a big pro as she was making her decision. Radford wound up a very close #2, but we really liked Radford and I have seen pics inside the glass walled studio and am so excited for the students there.

Side note - my kid has already in a tough moment talked about transferring, so she may wind up there eventually. Obviously told her to give it more time at her current school, but won’t be mad if she changes course.

Thank you! I care! Radford graduate (‘92) and former tour guide and ambassador. I’ve often said that I’d no longer be able to lead a tour because the campus has vastly improved and changed! Looks like Artis is on the Moffett Quad.

It is right near the dining hall and the fitness center (which is also very nice)

I never got an official tour, so the quad names aren’t familiar to me. It’s a cute campus, though! The surrounding area isn’t the best, but they aren’t far from Blacksburg and they now have an agreement for a Radford student section at VT games.

I think that new building will be a draw. The views from the dance studio are lovely. A sun filled large studio rather than being trapped in a windowless basement studio is definitely a big deal. They do have a really nice program there. I know someone who chose it over Butler, which is one of the hardest dance admits in the country.

I am almost positive I read that UMW was also going to build a new arts center. Like I said - happy to see this investment happening. It is nice not just for students but also the communities.

Georgetown is building a giant 780-bed dorm + dining hall + very big parking garage right in the campus. They need to replace the old dorms, which are crap construction, and dining halls, which are airport foot court design level. So I appreciate the investment. But they keep using Robert A M Stern and getting boring “hospital lobby” design .

When will that project begin/be completed. Have a hs senior and wondering if they would benefit from that...

Most of them, which is partly why costs have grown astronomically.

They’re building an entirely new campus that will double the size of their current one.

And one of the reasons U.S. higher education is the most expensive.
