Tolerance of what and whom? In my opinion, teaching tolerance here = standing up for the kids on the bus that are not Christian.

Except that the kids aren't driving the bus. The driver makes the decision on the music.

Meant to reply to this post (sorry pp!). Driver doesn't get to decide on music that is inappropriate for the context. And religious propaganda while representing a public secular school is not appropriate.

Seriously - b’s and ho’s and the n-word would be just fine. Mention Jesus or the Bible and call the ACLU.

Gross exaggeration, no wonder no one takes you seriously

So only those driving the bus deserve tolerance and respect? You’ll have to explain that logic…

How is asking the driver to refrain from religious propaganda while "on duty" in a public school system stripping them of tolerance or respect? They are welcome to listen to their religious propaganda in their own home, vehicle, or likely even when there are no children on the vehicle. While they are representing a public, secular school? Not appropriate.

Religious folk do love to play the victim, even when they are clearly in the wrong though, so no surprise to see some replies from pps.

Seriously though, do you think there would be an objection if he were playing Cardi B WAP?

It’s a radio station with music that happens to be Christian. If the music were Hindu prayers, do you think anyone would care?

What if this bus driver is black and you get them fired? Will you feel good about yourself then?

Get used to it if Trump wins. Christian music will be the norm.

Get a grip. That crappy music isn’t going to convert anyone. Tell your kid to put on headphones if you don’t like it. Then
give that bus driver a big old THANK YOU. We need bus drivers!

It is not about converting anyone. It’s about the fact that non-Christian students on the bus should not be marginalized. Sure I could tell my own kid to ignore, but that doesn’t solve the problem for the other kids who deserve a safe space.

Is this a joke? Marginalized? Nobody on that bus likes that music except for the driver. They’re all being marginalized.

Anonymous wrote:My kid has told my that their bus driver plays extremely loud Christian music on their bus every day on a Christian radio station that also talks about God/Jesus/the Bible. This is a concern for us as we are not Christian. Considering FCPS is a public school district, is there anything we can do?

Report it to the adm.

Listening to Christian music makes someone un-safe? I assume then you agree that sexually explicit content should be removed from school libraries? Because that could make some kids feel unsafe.

I wouldn't care if the bus driver was a good bus driver. DS has a bus driver so bad that the kids were texting parents from the bus scared because of how she was driving. So after that, I'd tolerate religious stuff played over the radio if the bus driver was safe and dependable.

Jesus take the wheel!

Agree! Not christian, either. And most of that pop christian music is truly wretched, but the driver shortage is really severe. My kid is getting to school late every day. So unless the driver is actually broadcasting passages from the Bible (or other religious text), I would suggest headphones for a HS kid.

It's not appropriate, but I don't want to lose a driver that would be otherwise just fine.

What a stupid statement . TDS afflicted to the max.

You are luck to have a bus driver. Tell him to turn it down or you will drive your kid to school.

Pick your battles. Just saying’ ….

Kids are sooooo loud on the bus. Your kids can really hear the music!

My dad drove a bus in NYC for 20+ years. Dealt with cranks, drunks, was nearly robbed twice. Handled it all with aplomb.

Retired and got a job driving a school bus in the suburbs. He loved the little kids, but those middle schoolers nearly did him in. And that was years ago, before the uptick in behavioral issues.

Just saying, if playing Christian music helps your kids’ bus driver get through his routes, count your blessings and cut him some slack.
