I also think for the majority of people on both sides who are somewhere in the middle there is burn out - on cancel culture and the wokeness hype. As people have returned to the life they knew before covid and things have become busy for them again, they have less energy to devote.

I agree with this assessment. Another huge factor adding to the resentment is the broken promise of our work culture in America. Employees are overworked and rewarded with pizza. Meanwhile the c-suite employees are rewarded with huge pay, bonuses, and compensation packages. No longer is an employee rewarded with a gold watch or a nice pension for their years of working for one company. Instead we are all pitted against each other to try to create some sort of existence.

They're in their late 70s and readily admit their belief that any other issues (environment, gun control, RvW) will never impact them in the long run, so why should they care? This despite the fact that they have 2 young granddaughters who have to grow up in the world they leave behind, and their own DD (that would be me) had a medically necessary abortion to save my life, of the type being denied to many in Texas, Idaho, etc.

I'm an only child and love my parents very much. We don't talk about anything that might turn political.

But, don’t we all want the police to take his guns away?

Uhhh, no? Sensible gun control and enforcement of laws already on the books =/= "take all the guns away".

This has been a violent, bigoted, anti-intellectual, corrupt country for most of its existence. The new thing is that what historically was brutality, oppression, and corruption by local and state ruling clans/sects/conspirators has become a nationalized movement due to technology advancements.

Nope, I'm actually the same PP. That isn't where he gets that idea. He literally thinks they're going to go door to door and search for all the guns. At every home in the country. No idea where that particular thought came from.

If there is a mandatory buyback and you don’t turn in your gun, the government could use a list of registered gun owner and go to your house and pick it up for you. It’s the logical next step.
