+1. OP, do you want Hogan confirming or blocking Supreme Court nominees with the GOP? |
I love him because he is willing to stand up to power. He has never said anything nice about Trump. I trust him. I don't always agree with his policies, but I trust him to really try to do what is best for America. But if the republicans are in the majority, he cannot stop them from doing bad things. If I were sure they would be the minority party, I'd vote for him. But Alsobrooks has done a great job in PG county. We've had some bad leaders, but she is good. I like her. So I am going to vote for her. |
| The MD economy completely stalled under Hogan's watch. Zero GDP growth. And he screwed up the Purple Line. |
| I don’t understand all of the folks who say they’re going to vote for Hogan because he will stand up to Trump. First of all, no he won’t. He will absolutely provide the deciding vote to confirm Trump’s SC nominees, if his vote is needed. But secondly, if you want someone who will stand up to Trump, why not just vote for Alsobrooks? She will stand up to Trump guaranteed. |
+1 |
Pretty much that’s why, if you’re a Democrat. I really like Hogan but I can’t vote for him for Senate. Because when he gets there he’ll just form part of the Republican voting block. Can’t do it. Maybe he’ll be the rare independent minded Republican who opposes Trump, but that didn’t work out for any of the others, so I’m not holding my breath. |
| Hogan has painted himself as a different kind of Republican, which he has been to a degree. But it's different in the Senate and he's already said he'll caucus with the GOP. If he wins and if the GOP takes the Senate, he will be a junior Senator in a voting block that has a very thin margin. Assuming Mitch McConnell is the Majority Leader, there is no way Hogan will be able to be some sort of maverick like McCain. It just doesn't work that way -- if he does, he will get terrible committee assignments and won't be able to work with the leadership to get anything for Maryland. Maybe they throw him a bone every once in a while but he for sure isn't going to be the deciding "no" vote on something important to McConnell (read: McCain on Obamacare). Being Senator and being Governor are two entirely different ballgames. |
| There is absolutely nothing a senator does that is more important than confirming SC nominees. And Hogan will absolutely confirm Trump’s SC nominees. I mean, legislation can be amended or overturned in a year or two if necessary. NBD. SC justices serve for life. Think about it. All of the senators who voted to confirm Clarence Thomas retired or died a long time ago, but Thomas is still there, making decisions that have a huge impact on our lives. |
| I went to the town hall call for Hogan last night. I found the actual verifiable information that he discussed to be a lot more actionable than whatever Alsobrooks said at the DNC. I’m not a big hashtag politics person, however. |
Is someone on the Supreme Court dying? I missed that AP headline. |
Claudia Tenney supports affordable housing tax credits. Now. And last year. And she’s hardly a centrist Republican. So….I’m not drinking your Kool-aid. |
There is always at least one SC Justice confirmed in every presidential term. Trump got 3 in one 4-year term. So yes, odds are Hogan or Alsobrooks will be voting on a SC nominee. |
| How would hogan stand up to Donald? Donald talked Hogan into running for the senate seat. |
Thomas |
+1 but not just SCOTUS nominees, also cabinet members and lower court judges. |
