True conservatives aren't pro trump. |
+1 Actually the only signs I will ever put in my yard are for school. |
+1 We deserve peaceful transfer of power. Insurrections happen in Latin America. We've never had one before. |
According to elections data, about 5-6% of voters in Takoma Park precincts cast votes for Trump in 2016 and 2020. It’s a small minority but it’s not zero. It’s probably the same proportion of Takoma Park that is transgender. |
All of Takoma Park could vote for Trump and it wouldn't matter. MD is very very blue. I judge all people who put up signs where it is clear that it will make no difference in the outcome -- it shows me that they're very stupid because they don't understand how our electoral system works. |
What do you like about living in Takoma Park? Would those same things exist if you voted for Republicans?
Ex: if you enjoy the excellent school system, do you understand the current GOP is attempting to destroy the public school system? |
I hope it would be fine, but I wouldn’t risk the yard sign.
I’m a conservative who has lived in Rockville for over 25 years. When I first voted in the area and discovered that you had to publicly identify your party affiliation, I switched my registration to Independent, because I didn’t think it was anyone’s business who I was voting for and because I realized a Republican affiliation was liable to create unnecessary tension with the neighbors. Later, when my eldest was attending TPMS (in the McCain/Romney era), I was volunteering at the school and the other moms started chatting about politics. They were clearly liberals and I just smiled and held my tongue, feeling it was neither the time nor place to get into a political debate. I still remember one of these liberal paragons of virtue asserting that there was no way she’d ever let her child associate with someone whose family voted Republican. My middle schooler was only starting to become aware of politics, and was just beginning to form her own opinions on the issues, which would eventually align more closely with those other moms’ position than my own. She certainly had no control over my opinions. Nonetheless, the liberals who claim to be the tolerant and compassionate ones would have deliberately taught their kids to ostracize a classmate based on something beyond their control, and felt virtuous for doing so. Ironically, although I consider Trump and the current Republican party to be antithetical to conservatism and more of a personality cult than a valid party, I switched my party affiliation to Republican so that I could support Hogan in the primary and vote against Trump. I want the Republicans to return to conservative values, and registering Republican allowed me to vote against the MAGA madness. After years of avoiding identification with the more moderate Republican party that I actually supported in calmer times, in this tension-filled era, I felt that the need to oppose the MAGA movement at every opportunity was worth the risk of becoming a social pariah. While I once wouldn’t risk the milder consequences of being linked to the party I agreed with, I now risk more to be linked to the same party now that I oppose it. I don’t know why you support Trump. As I’m sure you’ve gathered, I disagree with your choice, but I completely support your right to support him in every way you choose. While a yard sign should be fine, I dear that it will lead, at the very least, to social consequences, and vandalism or other hostile acts wouldn’t surprise me either, although you might find some unexpected allies. I would recommend that if you want to use your freedom of speech to support him you post here on DCUM, write letters to the editor, contribute to or volunteer on his campaign, etc. Just keep in mind that you’ll probably have your neighbors for longer than the four years of a presidential administration. I don’t know if the influence your yard sign could have on the election will be worth antagonizing your neighbors in the long run, only you can make that judgement for yourself. Meanwhile, as a conservative who can disagree with Trump and the current Republican party without demonizing Republican voters, if you’re interested in having a rational discussion on why I feel Trump (and the current Republican party) have abandoned and now threaten the conservative values the party has always represented, I would be happy to share with you why I feel the only choice left for conservatives is to vote Democrat. |
Please put your sign out. Let us know who you really are. |
You have to be a troll. Why would you vote for someone that wants to be a dictator and is a convicted felon? Voting Republican is one thing but, this guy and his Republicans actively want women to die from the inability to get safe abortions. |
What is "social harm"? Is that what we call free speech and freedom of association of people whose human rights we vote against but still want to beg charitable favors from? |
How embarrassing. |
First of all, yes excluding your daughter for your views isn't right. But, are you sure that she wouldn't lecture to her friends? You do realize that if one doesn't tolerate certain core values that are truly awful that does not make you a hypocrite. I'm taking about sexism, racism, homophobia to state a few. I am glad you are an anti-Trumper though. Trump is a true danger to our Democracy! |
A lot to criticize about Trump, but that paperwork "felony" is the least of it. It's a farce, and doubly so because his actual felonies, both sexual and financial, which he was not convicted of are far worse. |
Everything has consequences. Even free speech. If you put your sign out be prepared to be frozen out. |
convicted Felon is a convicted felon . It is not up to you to decide if it is worthy or not. Btw, Republicans want to take away Felons' rights ( who served their time) even though their nominee is a convicted felon. It. Does. Not. make. sense. And you better believe it Harris was a felon the Trump people would say the same thing. |
