Team uniforms

Does the club get some money back, sure, but they use it to buy gear for their coaches and staff (who are not making a ton of money) and equipment (cones, goals and whatnot) that your child uses at practice. Don't want to pay for a uniform? Play Rec

What is the $3k+ we pay for then? No individual development, no travel expenses covered, no wins, no college spot secured, What then?

Can't speak to your club, at ours:
League games, Fall, Winter, Spring
4-5 tournaments per year (depends on age)
2 practices per week with skilled coaches throughout the year
Free clinics (4-6 weeks, 1x per week) each season, focusing on gk, ball mastery, defending, etc
1 week team summer camp
I'm sure there's more, I can't remember right now

If you are unhappy with your club, leave and go to another - there are so many in the dmv, no reason to be a Debbie Downer, take your kid and your money and go elsewhere
Also free

Give the kid half the bundle now and then all then winter stuff as a Xmas/holiday present. Keep slides as door wedges.

2 things

One-paying a bunch of money does not mean absolutely anything. Let alone getting any sort of ROI
Two-I have ethical and moral dilemmas making so much money here in America as a foreign coach. But, there’s no way I would make a living back home like I do here…

Arlington families here. 2 yrs cycle kits and only requested to buy uniforms and practice shirts. Everything else is optional. We did buy the backpack and it’s been 4 yrs and still going. It helped that they got rid of white shorts so now we wear blue shorts for all both games (away/ home) and practices. Older versions shorts are also acceptable.

Nice, how is this acceptable for Arlington and not for other ECNL teams. Oh yes poor management, no one cares for the families, for the players. I don’t understand why players need fancy tees for practice, a backpack, warming jackets and pants that players will never wear.

That’s very sane, is this for ECNL?

I wish I was making this up but state associations and leagues will fine clubs if players do not show up with the same warm up gear and bags.

Don’t shoot the messenger 🤣

Every club we've been at requires it. Soccer.com will not even let you purchase partial kits until the season has started

I had this issue a while back and contacted the TD at the small club my son played at. I explained DS still had a perfectly good jacket and pants from the previous year and was there a way around it. He was able to change some setting so they were no longer required. I’m glad I spoke up!

I got so sick of buying different versions of the same uniforms. Have a ton of practice Ts for every club too. I do donate the ones that are outgrown by my kids--but if one kid can still fit in some of these uniforms--I wait.

But the damn backpacks...no I'm done. What a waste of $ and fabric. My older son just started using a generic backpack (non-club logo black) u17-u19

The backpacks kill me! DS has moved around a lot and always insists he wants a backpack for the new club. He’s now u17. You can imagine the collection! Last year when I bought his at u16 I told him that was the last one I’ll be purchasing. Our garage is full of backpacks for soccer and baseball. I wish I had someone to pass them to. Just yesterday I decided that they are all going as soon as I have time!

I agree with this. DS always wanted everything and was one of the only to purchase. We finally wised up!

2 year cycle for us. Typically buy the whole kit for year 1 then just replace odds and ends over the 24 months.

That said, growing up I used to love getting the new gear each season, it made the start of the season feel special.

So I do the same for my kids, it’s always fun to start the season with new kits and gear. It’s part of the magic.

All this just proves the actual soccer is never the priority
