Why do so many travelers/bloggers brag about eating food on airplanes?

Not only does the food look gross (hospital food, at best), why would you ever think the food is safely handled by bozos at the airport and lowest bidder vendors? And apparently even worse since Covid with safety protocols ignored, so in-flight food poisoning is super common. A flight last night from Michigan to Europe emergency landed at JFK after about 30 crew and passengers out of 277 began vomiting uncontrollably from food poisoning, creating a biohazard on the plane.

Isn’t that a subplot in the movie “Airplane?”

It is indeed, the pilots get sick and that's why Ted has to take.over, even though he was.scared of flying again.

And no idea why the PP claimed "in flight food poisoning is super common", with zero evidence to back up that claim, other than this single flight.

Lots of travel threads on reddit saying airplane food since Covid has been a disaster.

I don't doubt that the food has been overall poor quality- United in particular has had a horrid reputation the last few years for bad food. But actual evidence of plane-wide food poisoning? Most people who think they had food poisoning actually had a stomach virus, generally speaking.

We have a lot of fun on international flights unpacking the tray. There's just stuff and more stuff and my tweens love it. Packets of cheese, packets of butter, an interesting dessert, packets of cookies and crackers, salad, dressing, yogurt, etc. We don't take pictures though. That's just pathetic.

Even if it's free, I'd rather eat after we land. I'll eagerly booze though.

Serious? Instagram, TikTok and travel blogs are full of people posting photos and reviews of in-flight food. It’s a way to brag you’re in first or business and they pretend the food is amazing. It’s so weird.

A lot of us here are over 20 and see different feeds than this.

It might not be Michelin Star, but first class Emirates, Qatar and Singapore really isn't bad. And if it is on Emirates, there is unlimited Dom and caviar. Makes up for it.

Aw the 90s I flew the Concorde into JFK and was bummed that I only had 2:20 to gorge on Beluga caviar and Dom.

I was 22 at the time, I remember not wanting to have my colleague take a picture of me at boarding, through the special door in the Concorde lounge, no one else was snapping pics, although so many of them were beautiful, somehow seemed gauche… imagine there was a time when people actually felt that way.

What? You get excited about unwrapping butter and opening packets of salad dressing on flights? So weird

Isn’t first class on those airlines at least 10k per ticket? I love myself, but not quite that much.

The most popular travel blogs do detailed video or photo play by plays of this crap. It’s very weird.

What's weird is you watching this crap.

I dunno, I’ve had some awesome food / snacks on planes I wish I could buy at the grocery store. I’ve also had horrible food, so it’s not a brag. But not all airplane food is terrible.

Also, the food handling thing could happen in many scenarios. There was a huge E. coli outbreak at daycares in Canada recently. There are recalls all the time.

Not really sure about your point? I told everyone about the amazing pastries we had on our last visit from Germany. They were absolutely delicious.

I flew business on Emirates for work (yes, 12k ticket) and by some miracle they upgraded me to the First class little rooms they have that go for way more. I am a total nobody but the section was empty and I think the flight attendants saw a young woman traveling alone and did me a solid thinking I wouldn't be a pain in the ass. It was amazing and I'll probably never fly that way again, but the food WAS excellent!
