This AI gold rush is bad news all around. One day, we'll look back and wonder why we let these AI data centers get built everywhere with seemingly zero regulation -- allowing them to kill off jobs, destroy people's health, and destroy natural resources, all so that some tech bros could get rich.

But Americans understand that taxes pay for things they do like -- such as police, parks, roads, and schools -- and that taxes are necessary to a functioning society. Taxes are also explicitly authorized by the Constitution. So whatever parallel you're trying to draw between data centers and taxes doesn't really work.

Also, the idea that every policy that's hated by the American people is nonetheless worth pursuing is bizarre.

Show me one that is currently operating in the US and providing power??? You are seriously suggesting to have a micro nuclear reactor for each data center?

Keep up and educate yourself before posting inane nonsense.

DP. Sure they do. But also many of them, if they were charged use fees for AI instead of the costs being transferred or obfuscated by the current system, would choose the less-AI option.

You know how much i paid to access the internet in 1996? About $19.99. AOL would send these disks to us and that was the charge.

How much did I pay last month? Between home wifi and data plan for my phone, around $150.

You are suggesting that if we charged for AI-assisted searches, people would choose "free" unassisted searches? You realize that in both the AI and non-AI case, the cost is hidden from the end user.

No one is making you pay that. More importantly, none of that money goes into paying for the sites you use. It pays to maintain access for your home.

We have a thread to. Since you now have three threads to discuss this, do you think that is going to effect policy change? Will lawmakers see a sudden grassroots resistance rising on DCUM and change course?
