Caitlin Clark is like a shooting star for the WNBA. She brought in a huge number of fans because she's the all-time leading scorer in the NCAA. And people became interested in a women's sport they've never been interested in before. It was exciting. Now it's all about race and mean girl drama. And two years from now, absolutely no one will be interested in the WNBA. Good for her for getting her money, but good lord, talk about a squandered opportunity for the WNBA. The core of the WNBA - both management and players - is trashy. They had the spotlight for a brief moment and showed what they are about. Now it's like tuning into some crappy reality show. Idiots. |
The messiness was expected. Caitlin Clark wasn't going to slide right into position as the face of the WNBA, regardless of what the sponsors wanted. That's not how professional sports work. There is a probationary period. And Clark says she recognizes the process and just wants to play basketball. Let the increased publicity benefit the whole league, but yeah, Clark brought the public's interest. |
Fair enough, give her time. The problem with that is that she is being overhyped NOW! |
+100 Women's basketball is absolutely unwatchable. Angel Reese is supposed to be a superstar, but her skills are absolutely atrocious. What's she do, shoot something like 29% on uncontested layups? Just awful. I saw a shot chart from one of her games the other week. 3-13 with 12 of those shots taken directly under the basket. Awful shooting. But people are watching because of her too she says. Lololol The reality is simple. Women's basketball is terrible. Everything every single post player does is about like watching middle school hoops. This is not the case for most women's sports. Most women's sports, even if they cannot objectively compete with men, are still enjoyable to watch. Soccer, Softball, Volleyball, Tennis, Track, Swimming, Hockey, Golf...all good, all entertaining. Women's Lacrosse is terrible, but that's because the rules are stupid. But Women's basketball is objectively terrible. I keep trying to be entertained, and...it's just horrible basketball. Nobody can jump. The missed layups are just like a Shaqtin' cut up. Nobody can handle like Kyrie (because the hand-to-ball ratio isn't there, I suppose?). It's just not fun. The utter lack of fundamentals is just so terrible, I've tried to watch a game and forget boring I was actively getting mad watching the game yelling "WHAT WAS THAT?" on like 7 straight possessions. It looked like 5 women who had never met before playing a pickup game. They don't get good enough coaching in HS and in college and by the time they get to the WNBA it's too late because they already are set in their ways and have bad habits. The Aces look so good because Becky Hammond is such a talented coach. WNBA is really bad, but it doesn't have to be. Lower the rim by 6-9 inches and all of a sudden it might be fair and exciting. Of course they look like JV players when they are the size of JV players. It's not just a lack of skill/talent, it's a difference in physical anatomy. Dunking doesn't exist. The WNBA and the agenda driven media are just never going to get over the fact that it’s clearly an inferior product compared to the NBA. Women’s tennis is popular because it is a very different kind of game to men’s tennis and, in some ways, is more enjoyable to watch in terms of rallies vs power serving. WNBA players, skilled as most of them are, lack the explosiveness of NBA players. It’s “the dunk” that the game lacks. Sure there are a few players who’ve managed it in a game but even when they’ve done it the dunks have hardly been spectacular “put it in a poster” ones. It's a snooze fest product being jammed down our throats. |
| The quality of play is a huge problem for the WNBA. I mean just compare the NBA with D3 basketball. Absolutely no one is going to a D3 game unless they're related to a player. What made Caitlin Clark interesting is she had a kind of Steph Curry thing - shooter from downtown who was hitting it. It's a shame the WNBA has handled things they way they are. Soap opera racial drama. No one watches women's hockey either. |
Overhyped is an opinion, not fact. |
This kind of proves the point. People weren’t talking about MJ then the way they are talking about her now. Like she is a messiah for the league. She may very well be that girl but isn’t yet. That said I remain uninterested in the WNBA and she’s only a big deal until they get their first Lia Thomas. |
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Please, just say no. |

https://x.com/JoePompliano/status/1804330024025166298 "The WNBA’s Atlanta Dream typically play in a 3,500-seat arena. But for tonight’s game against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, they moved it to the nearby NBA arena. The game sold out and set a franchise record with 17,575 fans in attendance. Crazy." |
You are the problem, not Clark. |
Nope, the problem is the constant media attention she is being given even though she has accomplished nothing in the WNBA yet, and the attention that she is getting is not because she has been so far, the seasons MVP candidate. She's getting attention for stupid stuff, she was fouled to hard, the other players are jealous of her, she's pretty and straight etc. It's no wonder that men don't follow women's sport. Women don't like it but we do bring too much drama and nonsense to something that is supposed to be entertainment. But maybe you're right. The WNBA is still losing money and has to be supported by the men's NBA. So maybe it is me, an anonymous poster on a website that's the problem.

| She has changed the landscape and that can't be argued |
If you Google “Angel Reese missed layup” you will see that there is a cottage industry of morons creating supercuts of Angel Reese drawing shooting fouls which the morons call “missed layups.” The reason that WNBA basketball looks like middle school boys basketball is that it’s mostly played at the same level. If you are not jumping to above or within a couple of inches of the rim (as boys do by high school), there is a LOT more room for defenders to interfere with your shot. |
