Sounds like one per school, in selected schools.

She had nothing to do with this. It’s all Brian Hull and April Key.

Felder and Key have everything to do with this. And Henry Johnson. They are the inner circle right now and have essentially shunned everyone else in leadership.

The budget was in fine condition before McKnight left. MVA and other programs were restored, there were no talks about RIFs or not honoring contracts, county council was on track to approve the budget request and publicly praised Hull and the budget department for more transparency and collaboration then they had seen in years. Then Felder came in and ruined it all with her ego, stupidity, and her two cronies.

The budget was under water by December, when McKnight was still here.

Can’t easily pin the blame on the superintendents. Between retiring Fed money, teacher pay raises, and the underfunded Maryland blueprint no county is able absorb these costs easily.

Howard County Public Schools are in budget trouble as well.

Dr. Felder owes a serious explanation to the community for this mess and debacle. Where is she? Why is she invisible at this critical moment?

You do realize it’s not a mess and debacle just because people don’t like the current state.

They started w/ 6-8% cut during the budget planning. Moved over things from ESSR like they had been telling folks for 1 1/2 years was coming. Submitted their budget to the county council. Told the councils major cuts would be needed if the Execs initial budget offering was passed and now that the final budget is out are making cuts necessary to meet it and be sure they are fiscal for the coming year.

MCPS doesn’t set the county budget dates. This is the same thing that happens to any organization when it has to make cuts.

It's a mess and a debacle because the council and MCEA said they were blindsided by the cuts. Your version warps reality to make it seem like Felder, Hull and MCPS were transparent all along throughout the budgeting process. They weren't. Hence, why everyone is fuming and furious with them.

If this is a statewide problem, the state needs to put the Blueprint on hold until it is properly funded. If they can't come up with the funding, then no Blueprint.

Yeah. Blueprint seems like wishful thinking from legislators who have no idea what it takes to run education successfully and practically.

Cuts in all schools. More than one position in some middle schools and average of 3 in high schools

Not in all schools. Some have posted on this forum that their school received no cuts.

What schools were told they did not get allocations reduced today?

There is, semantically, a difference between allocations being reduced and not having to do cuts. Some schools are operating with "cuts" already in place.

McKnight left the budget in disarray when she got her 1.3 million payout. And now we’re paying a second superintendent her salary.

Schools with growing populations or a history of enrolling new students throughout the school year got few to no RIFs.

Other school had to absorb the change through a combo of retirements/RIF up to five positions from what our principal told us.

You fool! The council and MCEA are LYING when they say, "We didn't know!" Look at this post from April 19. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1200209.page;jsessionid=E8A2CA76DC42AED1F3D1502CBEE649F5.dcum1

It was on DCUM that 100 teaching positions were in line to be cut. If DCUM knows it, it's public knowledge. So, way back in April, the county council and MCEA both knew what the deal was.
