The BOE released an update on its superintendent search: https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/publicinfo/community/school-year-2023-2024/BOE-Update-20240531.html
In the announcement they made it clear they feel confident about hiring a permanent supe by July 1. But, even in the event that they didn't, also made it clear that a new interim would be named and not that Dr. Felder would continue in her role. Moderately MoCo took it further and said according to his sources, that Dr. Felder was told not to apply for the permanent position: |
FINALLY! The MCPS Board of Education for once makes a good decision. Hopefully they will find someone to hire by July 1, or someone else who can come in as interim. |
One could read it that way, I suppose, but I would not agree that that was "made clear" in that statement. Felder's interim appointment ends on June 30th regardless. If the board should decide to have her remain beyond that as an interim, they would still have to appoint her as an interim again. |
So she came in long enough to do some real damage to the budget that will have lasting effects on teachers and students. Awesome.

Good! |
That’s just a rumor. Not worthy of DCUM gossip even. |
She had nothing to do with this. It’s all Brian Hull and April Key. |
Felder and Key have everything to do with this. And Henry Johnson. They are the inner circle right now and have essentially shunned everyone else in leadership. The budget was in fine condition before McKnight left. MVA and other programs were restored, there were no talks about RIFs or not honoring contracts, county council was on track to approve the budget request and publicly praised Hull and the budget department for more transparency and collaboration then they had seen in years. Then Felder came in and ruined it all with her ego, stupidity, and her two cronies. |
I don't think that's true. They often approve less than what was requested, and everyone knew this was going to be a tight budget year. |
Agreed, Felder had nothing to do with this. I believe HR knew about these RIFs months ago which is why it took so long for the (original) involuntary placements to be placed. They have been on hiring pause in some areas for 3 months. |
This |
Frederick Co schools MD has $50 million gap. Much smaller system with far fewer extra resource, DEI, etc positions to cut. Big trouble up there too right now. Can’t easily pin the blame on the superintendents. Between retiring Fed money, teacher pay raises, and the underfunded Maryland blueprint no county is able absorb these costs easily. |
HR reports to Felder's chief of staff. It was the first change she made upon arrival. So yes, she has everything to do with it. |
Yes!!! |
