Travel to Italy and Spain with passport expiring mid July

Thanks! Wondering if your situation was within 14 days of travel or more than 14 days?

This. Just do it as a normal passport renewal and expedite it. Don't use an outside company. It might come down to the last min, because they prioritize people's departure dates, but they will get it to you.

Just got my passport back, expedited and two weeks all in. Sent it in on 4/26 for reference.

Within 14 days.

OP I know how you feel. Now you have to bust your butt and waste your time getting his passport? Pshhh.

How old are your kids? I know I'm just being grouchy, but you should threaten to go without him unless HE gets HIS sh*t together. He should be the one googling everything and making appointments, not you.

Twice?! What a waste of a congress person’s office resources.

Sounds like trying to get a same day apt is a good potential and we can try that coming up in a few days. I’ll also look into some more expedited options.

While this really sucks, I’m thankful we didn’t figure this out on our actual travel date. Just imagine my husband not allowed to board and me sent off to take the kids to Europe for the first time by myself. Not sure if I’d laugh or cry! Wishing everyone a better start to your summer travels!

Just be aware that depending on when your flight is, you won't actually get the passport on the same day. I had an appointment to get a passport yesterday, and since my flight isn't until next Thursday, they told me to come back on Monday to pick it up. It's likely only "same day" if you are literally flying out on the same day, or the following day. But I wouldn't put it off that long.

Oh wow! That’s good to know! Crazy to make the process so complicated. What if you lived an hour away? Bad experience to have to go twice. Safe travels to you!

How is that complicated? They obviously have to fit it in with many other ‘emergency’ passports when they already have a very full workload. This is a really busy time of the year for issuing passports.

Many offices have dedicated people that handle passport issues.

So they pay a staff member whose job is to handle last minute passport requests?

It isn’t just people that didn’t realize their passports are expiring before vacations - people have actual emergencies that require immediate passport services and the passport agency isn’t exactly the easiest place to navigate. Sometimes passports also aren’t delivered on time and they can step in and help get it sorted. It’s a constituent service just like they’d help you with IRS issues, etc, etc, etc.

He sounds immature and entitled. If you have sent him documentation of the rules , then be totally prepared to continue in your way if he is turned around at the airport.

I mean that. Have your itinerary, money etc.

Don’t make your vacation and that of your kids dependent upon someone with his head-in-the-sand/“the rules don’t apply to me” mindset.

I would not try to do it through post office, it’s too late and could get lost in paperwork. I would try to get a same day appointment but they say if you’re traveling in x days.

I don’t pay my congress person to help people like her husband avoid the consequences of his actions.

Why do people want to bail this guy out?

He needs to learn from this obnoxious attitude.

I am in Europe by myself right now.

And gave done it alone with a child many times.

Work on becoming more independent.

Your family is teaching your children out-of-date gender roles.

I feel your pain. Also, it's not lost on me that while your DH messed up, you're the one scrambling trying to fix the problem.

Hope everything goes smoothly from here on out.

That is why he does not change. “Mom” comes swooping in to save the day.

Enabling.

Between her feeling like she can't travel without her husband and doing all the work for his passport, I am sickened.
