Travel to Italy and Spain with passport expiring mid July

Anonymous
I’ve booked our trip for months. I’ve reminded my husband several times to make sure passports are valid. The kids and mine are fine but he nonchalantly tells me his expires mid July! Our trip leaves early June and back mid June.

I’ve searched around and it seems he likely can’t get on a flight if passport has less than 6 months left.

Am I nuts to be pissed at him now? Even so, what can I do? Is it easy to get a same day apt to renew passport? I can’t even get to book an apt right now since we need to be within 14 days of travel. Assuming we can head to any location close to DC area, are his chances good to get a passport renewed before our trip?

And assume we get one of the same day apt. Do they actually print it out for you on site or do they mail it back later so we can plan on timing?

I’m soooooo mad right now! Uggg.

He cannot travel with that passport. Yes, you can get same day printing.

Passport times are much better now than they were a few years ago. Expedite it. We did that for my husband and he had his in LESS than 2 weeks (it just arrived this past Wednesday for June travel).

If you can afford it, hire an expedite service - they'll do it all for you and can get it to you within 3-7 days for a $250ish fee.

Service name? I see a few but afraid we can’t get it back in time.

Just use regular passport expedite! You will get it in time. There is no other service that will work. I had to use one to rush mine and it was $900 all in. Don’t be fooled! You don’t need it. Passport processing times are fine right now.

Don’t pay a service, expedite and put your travel date on the application

Go to the post office today and use the expedite service there, with overnight shipping both ways from USPS. It's easiest and safest and no concern over potentially shady expediters

Go to the MLK library office today! No appointment needed. Expedited service should get the passport back in 2-3 weeks.

My idiot husband did the same thing last year. I would contact your senator asap. We’re in MD so it was Jamie raskin’s office and see what you can do. I would not try to do it through post office, it’s too late and could get lost in paperwork. I would try to get a same day appointment but they say if you’re traveling in x days.

I meant that I’d wait until you can start to get same day appointments vs trying to Expedite through post office because it sounds like your trip is too close. But I would also call senators office.

My DH had to fly to another city to get an emergency passport 2 years ago. It was printed same day. He missed the first day of our trip.

Try an expediter. They basically have standing same day appointments. Same process if you were doing it yourself but another way to get an appointment - hopefully one that is local. We tried that but the first availability for an appointment was too far out for our trip. But you have more time.

Jamie Raskin is a member of the House, not Senate.

This is completely unnecessary. You have plenty of time for an regular expedited application.
