Twice?! What a waste of a congress person’s office resources.

Many offices have dedicated people that handle passport issues.

Right, but these should be for emergencies. Not disorganize people who think the rules don’t apply to them!

Thanks! Wondering if your situation was within 14 days of travel or more than 14 days?

Just book a refundable flight within 14 days.

Sounds like trying to get a same day apt is a good potential and we can try that coming up in a few days. I’ll also look into some more expedited options.

While this really sucks, I’m thankful we didn’t figure this out on our actual travel date. Just imagine my husband not allowed to board and me sent off to take the kids to Europe for the first time by myself. Not sure if I’d laugh or cry! Wishing everyone a better start to your summer travels!

I am in Europe by myself right now.

And gave done it alone with a child many times.

Work on becoming more independent.

Your family is teaching your children out-of-date gender roles.

Between her feeling like she can't travel without her husband and doing all the work for his passport, I am sickened.

Right? How will our gender ever advance when women go along with these antiquated divisions of labor. And it seems to go with being a SAH spouse, so more dependence and lack of agency.

The "6 month rule" is common, but for many countries it's 3 months, and for some it's just "non expired passport"

However, it's the airline rules that you must follow. The airline takes on all the risk of people getting rejected so they often will turn back people with less than 6 months of validity.

She’s going to fix this problem and he will find another way to ruin the trip anyway.

There are no separate "airline rules". They use a system called Timatic which collates/updates constantly as countries publish/update their visa and immigration rules. For each international flight, the gate agent reviews the Timatic printout as they check passports at boarding for validity. United makes Timatic data easily available .

Just be aware that depending on when your flight is, you won't actually get the passport on the same day. I had an appointment to get a passport yesterday, and since my flight isn't until next Thursday, they told me to come back on Monday to pick it up. It's likely only "same day" if you are literally flying out on the same day, or the following day. But I wouldn't put it off that long.

Oh wow! That’s good to know! Crazy to make the process so complicated. What if you lived an hour away? Bad experience to have to go twice. Safe travels to you!

I am ok with them making it complicated to get a last-minute passport. Passports for adults expire every ten years- it isn't that hard to look at the passport and make sure it isn't expired a few months ahead of time. The process frankly should be harder for lazy people like OP's husband than for those that get their ducks in a row ahead of time.

FYI: in case this helps anyone, we just did an expedited passport at the MLK Library office and got it back in exactly two weeks. So things seem to be running smoothly!

I would not try to do it through post office, it’s too late and could get lost in paperwork. I would try to get a same day appointment but they say if you’re traveling in x days.

I meant that I’d wait until you can start to get same day appointments vs trying to Expedite through post office because it sounds like your trip is too close. But I would also call senators office.

Jamie Raskin isn’t MD senator. He’s the congressman for the 8th district.

Interesting how a request for expediting a passport digresses into marital advice, child raising and gender equality.
