How much merit? Did you get anything from USC?

No, that would be JMU, WVU, or Miami Ohio.

Gettysburg's acceptance rate was 48% this year.

Did they get into Auburn? I’ve heard it’s not a safety anymore.

Actually, they did not. In at Penn State, Indiana, Tennessee and Syracuse. Rejected at Auburn.

My daughter was determined to only to go Florida schools. Her safeties were USF and UCF (though I believe that UCF had only a 36% acceptance rate). However, based on her stats, she felt like these schools were safeties despite the low acceptance rates.

So, a 63rd ranked will always be treated like a safety

You are behaving like a jerk. What you mean is “The only people worth caring about are people who go to highly rejective schools. Gettysburg is a safety for kids who hope to get into Harvard.” I hope you don’t also mean “F the rest of the losers - they can lick my boots for a living” but that’s what it sounds like you believe.

In what world is #63 out of thousands a backup for better things? Sure, if your choice is #1, #63 is a disappointment. But that is on you, not inherent to #63.

Pitt (rolling)
UMW
St. Olaf and
Wooster

Your safety need to be a school that you can get into AND pay for. We started out with just Pitt and UMW (so, in my kids eyes, just Pitt) using this standard. But, my kid interviewed at St. Olaf and Wooster. We are full pay and both colleges pulled back the parent who brought the kid after the interview to discuss scholarship amounts and net price, to tell us to apply to stack music and academic scholarships, etc. that was is a pretty good indicator our kid would get in. And made the school financial safeties.

Kid is also attending WM.

In at first 3, WL at babson

Babson yield protects. One of the first things they tell you when you visit is that they want you to be absolutely certain that you want Babson as your school, because it is a small community on campus.

You mean highly selective. And its 63 out of 211, not thousands. No wonder why Gettysburg is #1 for you.

Agree, St Olaf is a better safety than Gettysburg

Just FYI, I know two kids with 4.6+ weighted GPAs from MCPS who were rejected from UMD this cycle. Luckily they weren’t assuming it was a safety for them.

That describes my DD. We didn't consider UMD a safety.
