Oh hell no! I’m 54, very fit and active. I have an 18-year old and 16-year one and would not want a baby/toddler at my age.

Being a close to 70-year old mom at your kid’s high school graduation doesn’t sound appealing.

Celebrity Bridget Nielsen recently had a child at 54. Janet Jackson, Hilary Swank, Chloe Savigny, Lucy Lou, supermodel Naomi, Campbell, I believe even Meghan Markle was almost 40 when she had her first child , and countless others recently had their first children in their 40s or 50s.

Almost 40 and over 50 are vastly vastly different. How can you even compare them?

Agreed. The person summing up "40 to 50 year old child bearing" as one block of time is clearly not 50.
At 40 I might as well have been 25. I looked about the same and certainly felt the same.

Now at 49 I look and feel entirely different. Same with all my friends. We're all trim and healthy and eat well and exercise daily and do maintenance and all that but we're markedly older.

I have to agree with this - and this goes for men too. Really, really not ideal to have kids much older than early 40s. You are upping the odds of cheating the kids out of parents at a much young(er) age than their peers. I mean, I guess kid would rather have been born than not, but still would really suck to lose your parents early (ie. kid is in your 20s, parent dies in their 70s (or even earlier) - not an unlikely thing).

Cameron Diaz's kids are gonna be just fine. Rest assured.

I kind of agree, but I'm pretty sure this baby was born via surrogate, just like their other baby.

Exactly. They hire a uterus to grow the baby. They hire nannies and household to raise the baby and do the child related tasks. They can pop in and hold or feed or play or engage if and when they want to. It is pretty stress free parenting. They aren't getting up at night, they aren't juggling multiple roles, they aren't feeling the weight of responsibility.

This^. Average 50 year olds can't afford a team of fertility experts, OBGYNs, surrogate mothers , wet nurses, nannies and maids to let them play moms. Its great that some people can have all that but touting their super powers only paints a picture of misinformation for average women.

Her is Donna Mills' take on it, and she's done it. (Her daughter is now nearly 30 and they'r both thriving):

"I realized there was something missing — it was a child..So I went after it. By that time, I was 54 and people said, 'You're going to be so old [to] have a little toddler running around.' well I never felt that."

I guess it's pretty easy to have a baby at 51 via surrogate then have the money for nannies and night nannies, night nurses whatever. Literally no skin off her back just her pocketbook.

The same could be said if she was 31.

Why not? Cardinal can be Cardi like Benjamin is Benji.

What I do like is that women have more options and choices now, babies never had options or choices so their rights are a separate debate.

Jane Seymour, Adrienne Barbeau, Cheryl Teigs, Donna Mills, all had children in their 50s. All of these kids are now grown up many Ivy League educated and doing just fine. Age is a construct and fluid. It is a mindset.

My joints disagree with that.

Megan Markle was 38 when she had her first kid. Can you imagine comparing that to 54? That poster is strreeetching.
