Trone in trouble over racial slur

Anonymous
I have never heard of this either. Maybe it is a more dated term that is not well known anymore. Progressives getting super worked up about this are risking that Republicans win back a senate seat in MD. Democrats can't seem to help themselves and go out of their way to throw people in their own political party under the bus. Republicans almost never do this (other than George Santos). Replacing him with someone that potentially has less name recognition at this point will increase the chance that Hogan wins the seat. Democrats ultimately have no influence if they do not win seats. Do not let perfect be the enemy of accomplishing political goals.

It's definitely a slur. It's even a slur that I (a white person) have heard white people using while saying racist things, a few times in my life.

But here is what Trone said: “So this Republican [bugaboo] that it’s the tax rate that’s stopping business investment, it’s just completely faulty by people who have never run a business. They’ve never been there. They don’t have a clue what they’re talking about.”

Bugaboo makes total sense. The slur word makes zero sense. Sometimes people actually mis-speak.

Bugaboo

1: an imaginary object of fear
2: bugbear sense 2 (an object or source of dread: a continuing source of irritation : problem)
also : something that causes fear or distress out of proportion to its importance

I have never heard this word before. Grew up in NY and now live in MD.

I've heard it before.

And so did he. He's just trying to get around saying it but like all closet racist he thinks if he says he's sorry everyone will move on. Liberals don't think the rules apply to them that's why it's a recurring problem they refuse to own.

But let any other party member even whisper something like that and you see calls to resign.

Stop making excuses for this twit. He said what he said and meant to say it.

Isn't it a Destiny's Child song?

Had no idea that it is a slur.

What exactly do you think that sentence means?

"Bug-a-Boo" is the Destiny's Child song, not the slur.

Anyone with half a brain knows he mis-spoke, given the right word makes sense in the context of the phrase, and the wrong word (the one he used) doesn't make any sense at all.

But apparently there's a very fired-up poster trying to make this into something!

That one dude got in trouble for saying niggardly simply because it sounded like another word. In the not too distant future people will probably get in trouble for bugaboo too.

I agree he probably misspoke. But man if Trump had said this you guys would have his head. Let’s be real.

You're not wrong.

Then again, Trump puts out a lot of racial dogwhistles on Truth Social and at his rallies. So if he "accidentally" used the term, it would fit with the rest of his history.

I don't recall Trone often playing footsie with legit white supremacists and using dogwhistles as part of his day-to-day campaign.
