Yes - it is McLean! I was so surprised to see all of these BYU commits. I just didn't realize that the school was so popular for McLean.

I was thinking the same thing so I was incredibly surprised to see so many people from my kid's school committing to BYU. I didn't think that there were so many LDS families around here.

Sport recruits are the exception to the above.

BYU is a fascinating place. Many seniors are married--look at a sports roster for any of their sports and read the bios of seniors. Well over 50% will have spouses--almost all met at BYU.

Mormons don't approve of sex outside of marriage so many get married at 19/20--even the super educated ones who will go on to top medical schools, law schools, etc.

It isn't . BYU is the top school for Mormons. Your school simply has a lot of Mormons in it. I bet you have several wards nearby as well

I never gave it a though until I saw how many kids committed to BYU- almost the same number as W&M ( as of now)- which is very surprising.

McLean connection: The CIA recruits heavily at BYU. BYU grads are dependable, clean-living, intelligent and patriotic graduates. A dream institution for the CIA to recruit at.

I went to a state school out west and yes, most of the Mormon undergrads I knew were married.

That's essentially the same as an in-state flagship, and the in-state schools don't tell you who you can date.

That’s way cheaper than my instate flagship.

Way cheaper as long as you don’t get converted. Then the 10 percent for life plus all the free work you have to do for them comes out way more expensive.

If you convert, your kids would also qualify for a very cheap university degree.

Yes there are always some BYU commits. There are also about 600 kids in a graduating class so really it’s not that many.

Also, many LDS members - hence many BYU students - are seriously bilingual to support LDS missionary work both in Latin America and overseas. BYU has an unusually broad set of foreign languages on offer, also.

No, they aren't getting married at 19/20 because they are FIRST doing 2 year mission trips for men and 18 months for women. Over half of the BYU football team has served a two year mission - this season it was over 60 players. The average age of a BYU football player is 21.7 years old. So many seniors at BYU are graduating at age 24. So they aren't getting married at 19/20 it is more like 22-24 when they are juniors or seniors.
