SAT proctor 90 minutes late to show up this morning

This is one of many problems with standardized tests.
They never are.
How does the college board account for 1 room where a proctor does not show? Or there is band practice outside the window or ....

especially when some private schools have gone over the top to make sure it is optimal testing environment?

Wow this thread is eye opening. My daughter is in a private school and I think I will stick with that school's schedule for the testing...just hope it is a one and done.

Where?
To whom?

No one care - College Board is set up to make $$$$
They could care less that proctors don't show
What happened to all the high school students signed up to take it - and then the high school cancelled it after the window when the kids could change locations? And it was due to a "scheduling conflict" at the high school

These kids may have prepared - and were ready for the test - the same way an athlete trains so that they are prepared for the event.

Jackson Reed has always been the worst place to take standardized tests. I've seen proctors show up two hours late and I've seen them taking calls from the testing rooms. No controls there at all.

And all of my kids have taken many standardized tests there over the years. The only ones that have been disasters are some of the SATs on school wide testing days. Never had a problem with Saturday SATS or any of the APs. And there are plenty of controls. Though I'm sure there are issues. But a sh#$show. No.

I've been reading DCUM religiously for the past 4 years and there have been NUMEROUS reports of horrible testing administrations or giant screw-ups at Jackson Reed (aka Wilson at the time) during both mid-week and weekend administrations of the SAT and ACT.

I'm a DCPS parent so this is not anti-DCPS for the sake of being "anti-DCPS" or any such thing. Just FYI.

OMG. That sounds horrible! Did they just have to sit there and not do anything? Were they okay?

After all of the preparation and anticipation it really sucked to sit there for two hours at 8 am. They were afraid it wasn’t going to happen. My kid wished she had a phone or a book so that was her mistake. I hope it doesn’t happen to your kid.

They were afraid? Lordy, your kids are privileged. It was probably the only time since they started school that they were allowed to just sit there and do nothing. You have these kids so
over scheduled that they don’t know how to just sit and do nothing without being anxious. That’s sad.

You don’t know a thing about my kid or any kid. They did great on the test after sitting for two hours waiting for it to start. There’s no way for you to spin this that it wasn’t a bad situation- we paid for the test, they prepared for weeks, and it sucked to just sit there. Now I do hope that your kid gets to a center and it’s outright cancelled and they miss the deadline for their dream school. No, I don’t…because I feel bad enough that they have you for a parent.

So fine…there are a dozen testing centers within like 5 miles, so just sign up for one of those. It’s not your problem (fortunately).

My kid has never had problems taking tests at JR, but I am sure there are sometimes.

The College Board customer service rep provided me with 100 percent inaccurate information (including that the test center was closed).

If this is the kind of thing you'd like to avoid, go elsewhere to take the test; I have heard of this happening at J-R in past years

How in the world is the "cautionary"?? Do you really think your little snowflake story will prevent anything unusual from happening in the future? Maybe the proctor got in a car accident and they had to get someone else. You can NOT predict anything.

SO angry! Yikes!

I am the OP. Cautionary because this seems to be a not-infrequent occurrence at J-R. I'd read about it here once previously and thought it had been a one-off.

I share this so others may avoid it if they wish. The proctor showed up at 925 or so, citing "technical difficulties".

Shit I'd of been pissed. If URM's and first gen's get a score bump for overcoming circumstances, these kids should get one, too. I'm sure they were frazzled, irritated, and probably hungry -- not an ideal state of mind in which to take a test that determines your future.

I am grateful for when people like OP report a bad experience (and good too) with a testing center. No one wants to wait that long for a test to start.

My kid never even took it. He got in everywhere he applied. Nearly everywhere is test optional. Work smarter.

We don’t live in California. TO is not an option in the DMV

WTH are you talking about? There are only a few schools like MIT that require scores. Every school my kid applied to was in the mid Atlantic and is TO and many have been for years.

Unhooked kids from the inner suburbs are need to provide test scores if they want to get in anywhere decent
