More than a killer on the loose?? |
| We were just at UGA this past weekend checking out the campus, as DD has been admitted and strongly considering. We drove by the IM fields and lake. They are both at a far end of campus and felt pretty isolated. The thing that surprised me most about the UGA campus is that some pretty run down public housing projects right next to if not directly on campus. Definitely gave me a bit of concern. I just learned that there was an armed robbery of a student last Friday night near the dorms. Definitely a lot to consider. We also never saw a single police officer anywhere on campus or in Athens. It does not feel like the University or City care much about student safety. |
t I suspect that's about to change quickly after this incident. where were the housing projects? We visited last year and I didn't notice any. I never saw police on any other campuses we visited either. There is no good to any death, but I suspect they will be running a much tighter ship. I went to UMD in the 90's and the College Park rapist walked into our house! We were on the news. It's all so crazy. Where else is your DD looking? |
| Does anyone consider these events when applying or deciding? |
| Crime everywhere is a concern. But I think the crime in the DC area is more alarming than most of the schools our students looked at. I often worry more about them when they are home for breaks then when they are at school. |
Crime stats are easily available online and worth considering along with the many other factors. I like the ones that grade the campuses. |
Michigan tops the list. Weird clearly people aren't deterred. |
Killer on the loose? Well yeah. |
So there was an unsolved murder at Wisconsin since 2008. Arrest was made last year. Was enrollment down? |
|
UF had a serial killer in the 90s. A scary time for those who lived there then.
There’s always crime. You could keep your child in a room lined with bubble wrap but they won’t be happy. |
| Drunk drivers are probably a bigger risk. |
How many of those crimes involve drunk kids? The crime I’ve heard about involves guns and carjackings and sometimes gangs. Some drunk guys are forcing sex on women. Support gun control and teach your sons not to rape people, and that’ll go a long way. |
Gangs and carjackings? Where? |
