With news of a possible murder at UGA (on top of our list) I am freaked out. I heard UF also has crime and Ohio state isn't in a great area, UMD etc. The list goes on. Are most of these college towns that bad or is it my anxiety?
If the person isn't caught, seems scary to send my kid to a school with a killer on the loose. Or is DC just as scary? |
| You need psychiatric help. |
| I think the University of Phoenix is safe as long as you stay out of the Metaverse. |
What part? Kids being drunk and these college towns in bad areas? Why is that so crazy? |

If you want to decrease the risk of your child experiencing violence, support gun control.
That is the tool of most homicides and suicides in this country. |
| I worry about crime in HS and at the grocery. Life in 2023 but we all need to live our lives. |
| It’s definitely your anxiety. That and all-crime-all-the-time news feeds. |
| Nothing can be worse than DC. |
I 100% agree on gun control! (OP) |
Good point. |
It's making me not want to send him there, but they will probably now be the safest campus ever. Similar to when a plane crashes. |
Exactly. |
| Where in America is safe? There are mass shootings in malls, schools, movie theaters, grocery stores, churches, restaurants, and the list goes on…. |
I agree-- it's all dangerous. But having tons of drunk kids in the college towns with locals around (whether it's College Park, Columbus, Athens, Gainesville, etc) seems like a recipe for crime, no? Does anyone else think about this when their kid is applying/deciding? |
| I also worry about states with loser gun control laws. I think about Virginia a lot with their two noted campus mass shootings in my recent memory. And also states with tight abortion restrictions given the indices of "date rape" on college campuses. |
