Worried about crime on campus

That is the tool of most homicides and suicides in this country.

Actually, stay away from inner city schools.

My DS plans on attending a college that's been in the news for high levels of sexual assault, in a town that's known for being rough. Do I worry? Yes. But honestly, if I kept him home and he was mugged here, what would I have accomplished? Sometimes you just have to let them go and hope you brought them up smart enough.

Yeah, lots of mass shootings there.

What schools are inner city? Colleges or HS?

They have no suspect in UGA murder

Your concern is legitimate, OP. Sexual assault, gun violence, frat hazing and petty crime are why campuses usually have their own security, blue light call boxes and safe buses that operate after hours.

Your best bet is to tour campus, ask hard questions and assess the vibe for yourself.

My kid is at George Washington. The campus is clean and has its own campus police and EMT (Georgetown does too, I understand). It feels safe, but I was a little concerned last fall when that alleged murderer escaped from the GW hospital and the campus went into shelter-in-place for a few hours. My son's only concern was that he couldn't go to the dining hall to eat at his usual time.

UGA got rid of blue light but has some
Phone safety system. I'm sure now they will be doing everything to make it safer. Someone on Twitter said the murder could be linked to the killer or Rachel Morin. I have visited UGA and it felt ok. Many homeless people but otherwise fine. Prob similar to college park, Ann Arbor, Columbus? My DC won't be concerned but it has spooked me.

I went to college in Baltimore and so does my son. The worst crime that happened was a few car break ins (they were all left unlocked).

Yes, we need more gun laws, so urban prosecutors have more laws not to enforce.

Exactly. Nobody ever gets killed in Baltimore!

I went to Ohio State. It was a lot more sketchy then. The area around campus has dramatically improved. Teach your child to be smart. Don’t walk around at night alone. Be aware of your surroundings. Carry pepper spray. Check in with other students/roommates.

Oh I heard Columbus is sketchy too. But almost everywhere is these days. Forget walking alone at night. How about don't run alone during the day on trails!

Not anywhere close to campus but I used to nanny at a home in Greenwich close to a murder location.
