Ski trip break down

Because not everyone does this, dumbazs.

or we are smarter about it. We ski CO every year for a week. Always stay ski in/out and have never spent more than $2500 on lodging for a week. I book early to find good deals and don't go over Christmas break.

If we're at a place less than a week, and sometimes even then, we always stay ski-in/out and it costs about that much per night. For fun reference, Deer Valley St Regis is $4,000 per night for a standard king room.

I can't tell if you are purposely being obtuse or are just someone who is so privileged that you are 100% out of touch with reality.

Just like all vacations, a ski trip can cost $5k or $ 30K+. Depends on when and where you go and the tier of lodging you choose so stay in.

Sure you can pay $4k/night for the st Regis but you could also get an Airbnb nearby for a under $4k for the week.

If it's a ski trip, we're staying ski in/out or less than a 5 minute walk to a lift. With kids in school, we ski Christmas week. It's expensive. The St Regis was an outrageous example of lodging costs -- we're not that "privileged".

If it's a ski trip, we're staying ski in/out or less than a 5 minute walk to a lift.

But this is not a requirement. Plenty of people have no issue with a 10 minute shuttle twice a day.

What are you not understanding?

I assume pps speak from their own experiences, not yours. Isn’t that how this q/a usually goes? (Even if it doesn’t directly answer OPs question).

Here is the post from that PP that got many responses. I don't know how anyone is only spending $2-3,000 for 5 days ski lodging for 2 rooms. If we're at a place less than a week, and sometimes even then, we always stay ski-in/out

It would be one thing if PP said: We spend more than that but we stay slopeside.

But that's not the case.

yeah there was something so "let them eat cake" about the PP saying she can't imagine how anyone spends less and then quoting the price for one of the most expensive places to stay at one of the most expensive ski mountains in the county. It would be like me saying "I don't know how anyone goes to a restaurant for less than $500 a person. that is what I spent last week at French Laundry."

Its cheaper to go to Europe than UT/MT/CO for us. like a good 30% savings. Or we go to our hometown and do daytrips from the in-laws (1 hr drive, so not too bad)

For those of you finding $2000 a week's lodging to ski, I'd love to hear what type of accommodations you have and how far you are from a ski lift. Thanks

I posted a link for the condo we are staying in at Breck for spring break. It’s ski in/walk out. Short walk to the gondola or 5–10 minute shuttle to lifts (shuttle stop is right outside door). It’s also walking distance to downtown.

We stayed at a one bedroom at the base of Winter Park - a couple hundred feet from the chair lifts. Price varies but is about $2500 for 4 nights including AirBnB fees (and includes free parking). We stay at a cheap airport motel the night we arrive and the night before our flight home -- that is another good way to shave a few hundred dollars off your trip.

This week about $3700 for 2BR.

How many people can you stuff into a 1BR?

We fit 4 people easily. Kids sleep in living room. We consider that a splurge vs all of us staying in a studio.

No need for ski in / ski out if you go to Utah. Snowbasin, Brighton, and Solitude are all easy to get to from the Ogden/SLC.

Same for us - when the kids were elementary/middle school we stayed in large studios or 1 BRs frequently. At high school/college age we usually needed a 2 BR. And we've definitely done the airport hotel trick too - in SLC and in Calgary on the way to Banff (where we stayed at the Chateau Lake Louise).

Late season is when we've gotten the best deals. Last year we stayed in a Deer Valley owned hotel for under $500/night for a large 1 BR condo in late March. Free breakfast, on demand car service to Park City or to mountain restaurants (like at Silver Lake). We didn't need a car, and skied until 2 pm the last day and flew out that afternoon.
