What Does FCPS Do with Excess Capacity at Herndon HS

So what happens:

1 - They wait and see if Silver Line growth requires an adjustment of the Herndon/Westfield boundaries. The areas near the new Silver Line stations are zoned to Westfield, not Herndon.

2 - They move part of Great Falls zoned to Langley to Herndon. The Forestville ES area in Great Falls used to go to Herndon and is closer to Herndon than Langley.

3 - Nothing.

You seem hyper-focused on trying to will 2. into existence. It’s getting old, and it’s a weird fixation. Also, opening up a new thread on this is lame when the prior recent threads have been heavily focused on this because you keep bringing it up there.

Perhaps you should consider running for a future school board based on your redistricting crusade. You could see how intensely unpopular your platform is.

You are absolutely correct. This thread was just another sad excuse to bring up the OP's personal vendetta. Especially when there are other current threads about *exactly the same thing.*

Why does the gf person sound so insane?

Why would asking about FCPS’s plans for hundreds of extra seats at Herndon be a “personal vendetta”? And why does the topic get you (and it appears to be just you) so hot and bothered?

It's a valid question but it's still a ways off from materializing and it may not even happen if the predictions are off.

One can look at how FCPS handled Lewis and Mt Vernon as examples which are currently in that situation. The answer is FCPS did not seem to have pre-planned strategies for dealing with under-enrollment. Perhaps they didn't anticipate the depths and length that under-enrollment would last. The Embark developments of Rt. 1 will eventually push up MVHS back to capacity so they will likely ignore MV again for now. The leadership academy at Lewis is an attempt to bring pupil placements into Lewis but we have yet to see if that will work as planned.

It won't work as planned because no one is interested in the leadership academy and part of that is because it is at Lewis.

As a county taxpayer who helped pay for Herndon’s expansion when money could have been spent on other things, I’d like to see them make use of the additional space rather than let it go to waste.

So send your kids there.

I think its fine for schools to have extra space. Pleasant for the kids not to have to scrounge for somewhere to sit at lunch or claw their way through the hallways.

Lame response.

That’s more of a critique of overcrowding than a defense of wasted space.

Insightful response. Seems directly relevant to me. If you’re so concerned about empty seats, it’s an obvious answer. Or do you not want other people arbitrarily meddling in where your kids go to school?

You really are an idiot. The answer to an inefficient use of capital resources isn’t more inefficiency.

So where do they go? Why are you afraid to answer the question?
