Is it weird to sit at a steak restaurant’s bar and ONLY order a steak?

“How do you like your steak cooked?” she asked, hoping to further shame OP.

Even if they did think it’s weird, which they won’t, who cares? Have more confidence in yourself. Order the food you want. It’s no one’s business but your own.

Here’s a tip for you: no one actually cares.

Why would it be weird? Just order the steak and say hold the sides.

I assume 99.9% of steakhouse patrons get apps, soup, salad and/or sides — at least frites. I only want a steak. Literally just a filet on a plate.

I don’t think anyone will care. And you’re not tying up a table if you sit at the bar. Tip well and you’re fine.

This. If anything, a solo diner should eat at the bar to not tie up a table. If you tip well, you're fine

It's fine as long as you tip appropriately.

Steakhouse sides are sized to be shared, and people often don't get them if they are dining alone.

Is this your first time at a steakhouse, or dining out at all?

I’m aware. But you could still start with soup or salad. Maybe a shrimp cocktail. And most steakhouses have a petite filet + potato + veggie menu item.

I want none of that. Just wasn’t sure how abnormal this would be to the server or bartender.

Who TF cares? These people are here to serve you. Be polite to them, but why would you spend one moment thinking about what they think of you?

The only thing weird is that you crowdsourced this

How insecure ate some of you, that you need to check with strangers about whether what you want to order at a restaurant is okay.

I don’t get how you function.

Totally fine and preferred if you are a solo diner

I don’t even think you need to overtip. Tip on what you order.

Also I want a medium rare ribeye right now.

I for one am very glad OP started this thread. Why you people want to discourage unusual content is a mystery to me.

OP, in your shoes I’d order a gin martini with a side of filet.

I love going to dinner by myself, especially during business trips. No one cares OP.
