Reddit/A2C
College confidential (which forums)

Something else?

I used like DCUM before all the crazy ads. Looking for something better too.

The ads on CC aren’t much better. I’m always closing windows on that site and more windows pop up and then I have to close those. After awhile I give up.

Imadouche.com…great info on colleges in the NYC area.

Anonymous wrote:The CC parents foriums can be helpful. If you click on parents forums there are forums for various HS graduating classes. You can ask for advice there. It also has a pretty good search function where you can see if others have already discussed your question. People are generally helpful and it is less mean spirited than this place can get.

The Parents of the HS Class of 2024 forum is an effing disaster. It is dominated by a small group of parents who have a weird obsession with cocktails and love to talk about their Biglaw jobs. Very rarely is it ever on topic and the majority of people seem like folks I would go out of my way to avoid in real life.

I sort of want to join now? Except it's really bad when I am in those forums and posting with my actual name.

Why would you do that!

I'm not sure what device you're using but a computer or tablet works way better than the phone for CC, IME

Interesting. I use a phone

DP. CC is much easier to navigate on a computer.

I find it useful except for the jerky moderators (lookin' at you SkiEurope) and a few know-it-all types (though it's fun to see them square off with each other).

Oh, yes! The moderators must all be frustrated Ivy League stay-at-home moms. At times I’ve posted observations and people argue with me or ask about my data sources. I guess they prefer to wait months until they can read the same observation in the media! And SkiEurope - yeah, she’s rude. I’ve left it for Reddit. I prefer to see what the kids are actually complaining about or how they are advising others. As for DCUM, I do not understand why people will not name the colleges they are discussing!

I think CC is pretty much dead.

Ok this really bugs me too 😂

Skieurope is the antichrist. I miss Pizzamom.

SkiEurope has middle manager syndrome. Except at least middle managers are getting paid.

Problem is the advice on Reddit is inaccurate. Mod there gives definitive answers but doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Every once in a while Reddit kids will come across something useful by crowdsourcing, but it’s mostly the blind leading the blind.

Pretty sure that this is correct. There are strong indicators based on that person's activity. Claims to be an alum of two outstanding schools even though her responses do not appear to be from an educated person (every question or issue has an absolute, clear-cut answer which is the opposite of what higher education teaches us). Seems clear that this mod has never worked in the real world during her life.

The mods are a distinguishing factor. Some are overbearing and some are kind and reasonable.

Agree. Excessive activity by mods and the mean girl clique has caused many to leave and deterred others from participating.

I recently found DCUM as CC was not nearly as active or useful as in past cycles with my older kids. I’ve NEVER seen a worse UI, it’s a painful experience even on desktop. Also the few times I’ve posted vanilla questions the responses are weirdly know-it-all and aggro. The search results are horrendous too.

Agree that Reddit A2C is mostly high schoolers and the blind leading the blind. I’ve found the Discord server for A2C (Reddit) to be amusing to observe and VERY active! Definitely worth checking out. Obviously no parents there so please don’t comment and ruin it for them 😂

+1. lol!

The mod of A2C speaks to kids with definite answers, sometimes right and sometimes wrong. It makes me uncomfortable.
