Snapchat, Discord and META appearing before Sentate committee today - MUST WATCH!

Of note, Snapchat and Discord refused to voluntarily testify at the hearing. When the committee attempted to issue a subpoena, they initially refused to accept it electronically. The democratic senators are in a very grouchy mood and it should be a doozy today.

Good. Get that predator krap off

I’m shocked to see so many posters here actually compliment the Republicans. I’m a conservative and usually people on this forum vilify them.

Why aren't parents responsible for their own children? How far should the bubble extend around kids to make a safe world for them? We are responsible for this mess, not social media. Parents should vow to pull back from all the cell phone use of their kids if it's so toxic. If we can do dry january, we can do this. Those people testifying don't control our kids, we should. And appearing before a Senate committee is nothing new. Nothing will change because of it. So what are WE going to do about OUR kids social media use?

The people Matt Hawley is complaining about being allowed to harm children on social networks, are... people like Matt Hawley.

I am pleased to see bipartisan support and cooperation.

Graham is the man who warned the whole country about Trump, and then spent years grovelling at Trump's feet. These are snakes accusing crocodiles.

Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat all tout that they have more safety measures in place for teen accounts, but that is easily bypassed by a kid setting up an account with a false birthdate.

They could l have passed an age verification law at any time in the last 10 years, instead of committing themselves to blockading government.

The ACT would also require age verification.

This already the law in California, right?

I generally thought all the senators, of both parties asked good questions on behalf of the country.

I will say that Tom Cotton annoyed me. He kept asking the TikTok guy if he was a member of the Chinese communist party. The guy said “no, I am a citizen of Singapore” over and over again but Cotton just wouldn’t let up. I mean, maybe the senator has some intelligence or other source of info that made him go down the path, but to those of us watching, it just seemed like the senator didn’t know the difference between Singapore and China. Which was so awkward.

I think when politicians of both parties put on their sensible hats, and work together, they can accomplish a lot. I’m happy that this is bipartisan. I’m happy to see both sides and seeming agreement for this issue. When people put aside their differences and come together for the betterment of the nation, it is a very good thing, and I will always complement it.

I agree that Tom Cotton was off-topic for his questioning, but I agree that TikTok is a puppet of the Chinese communist party. We don’t use it in my household. But his questioning wasn’t smart it came off as repetitive and a little unhinged.

Well in China the government actively limits social media use for children. Obviously individual efforts here aren’t working.

I was not aware that in China TikTok is heavily educational. (“And the CEO’s kids don’t use TikTok but now I don’t remember if I read that or heard it yesterday‘s hearing.)

A kid will 50+ absents and Fs will get 100K+ views and 50,000 like a kid with perfect attandance with all A's will get 4 views and 0 likes.
If you go though your kids TikTok you will see it, and my daughter said she never like any of the skipping videos and has no idea how she got them.

I downloaded Snapchat and put in my age as a 13 year old. I set the Memoji as a boy.

The suggested snaps were included girls in very provocative poses. This was 10 mins after downloading the ap.

Snapchat is the worst and I so thrilled that Speigal was hammered
