Of note, Snapchat and Discord refused to voluntarily testify at the hearing. When the committee attempted to issue a subpoena, they initially refused to accept it electronically. The democratic senators are in a very grouchy mood and it should be a doozy today. |
I hope they get crucified |
Watching now. I hope they all get nailed. |
Nailed for what? |
I need them to ask them about the garbage age verification systems which rely on users picking a birth date from a dropdown with no verifications.
Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat all tout that they have more safety measures in place for teen accounts, but that is easily bypassed by a kid setting up an account with a false birthdate. |
Negligence. |
I agree with sen. Graham- they have blood on their hands.
I am pleased to see bipartisan support and cooperation. |
For the harm they are causing. |
Lindsey Graham is killing it. Let these companies get sued by social media victims. Until it hurts their pockets, social media companies won't change. |
So far Snapchats ceo feels like he’s the most open and acknowledged the victims in an authentic way. Our family does not use Snapchat. Tick toc’s was— yikes. |
This never has been true and never will be, no matter what they say. Keep your kids off of social media for as long as you can. Don’t buy into the garbage that it’ll hurt their social life if they’re not in it. Don’t expect these companies to care about your kid’s mental health or to ever take any real action to curb the time spent on their apps. |
I get the opposite impression. He is by far the slimiest and has the most to hide. Snapchat is destroying an entire generation of middle schoolers. |
TikTock CEO admits that his children do not use the product. |
Snapchat CEO also admitted that his children are not given access to Snapchat. I remember in the Netflix documentary re social networking that the Pinterest CEO talked extensiveily about how he and his wife keep their children entirely off of devices. Very telling that these companies are selling a product and will not allow their loved ones access to it. |
The PROTECT ACT - Sen Lee has a bill that will ecosystem-wide require sites that host pornographic images to verify that the individuals who are appearing in the images have signed an informed consent to appear.
The ACT would also require age verification. |
