I get the opposite impression. He is by far the slimiest and has the most to hide.

Snapchat is destroying an entire generation of middle schoolers.

I’m listening some more and I think I was wrong with my original assessment, you are right.

The ACT would also require age verification.

How on earth would that ever practically work?

What do you mean? Is it impossible to verify ages of porn actors? Or do you mean that sites shouldn't be responsible for the videos that they host? If sites do not feel they can verify that information, then maybe they shouldn't host it...

To some degree this is like shooting fish in a barrel for the electeds.

The last time Congress tried to protect children, it end up protecting big tech.

This is at the feet of PARENTS anyway.

Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat all tout that they have more safety measures in place for teen accounts, but that is easily bypassed by a kid setting up an account with a false birthdate.

So you want to be forced to hand over a photo ID to access these sites? I sure don't.

Ridiculous. Maybe we should deregulate alcohol and weed too and just let parents ‘police their children.’ These companies are making a fortune off exploiting kids and no parent can compete with their army of marketing and legal depts. they need to be accountable for the harms of the product that they profit from. Otherwise they have no incentive to not destroy lives.

You are insane if you believe that.

Matt Hawley is a huge ass and jerk but I have to give it to him because he nailed his questioning.

It's nice to see Congress acting in a united fashion for once. More of this please.

Um parents if you don't want your kids to have these apps, just don't give them a phone. Or give them a flip phone. Not that hard

Not that easy. Do you have actual teenagers? Or are you hypothesizing?

Thank you for responding to this.

Didn't they promise they would going to ban TikTok a year ago?

I listened to the entire hearing, and came away, impressed by most of the representatives and their questions. They all seemed to be in agreement regarding social media and their responsibility. It was a breath of fresh air when politics is usually so divided.

It’s shocking how little oversight and how little social media companies sometimes do In terms of child pornography. In Facebook the two options that are user will get is to look for resources, or to view the image. Zuckerberg’s response was that sometimes they mislabel images and maybe sometimes it’s not child porn so they will still show the image.

Believe me they know how old you are. Social media companies and advertisers are tracking everything you do even outside of these platforms. With the kids it starts in school. Data is big money. There are algorithms that are pretty accurate at predicting age based on several factors.
