Will moderate running hurt or help with aging and longevity?

That isn't necessarily true. If OP is overweight, the impact from running may cause injury, especially if her body isn't used it.

A gradual start and increase in volume won't result in injury. I get the you hate running (and probably hate all cardio exercise), but this bullshit of making up reasons not to run us tiresome.

OP, moderate running will help prevent osteoporosis.

The pounding is good for bone density.

They sell something for that called sunscreen. Also, how bad do you suck at math? We are talking less than 4 hours a week of additional outside time. Most people need to be outside MORE.

Running seems really accessible, but the truth is, you should strength train a bit if you want be a serious runner with good form and NO injuries/setbacks

Having strong glutes (there are many exercises for this using thera bands) will prevent a lot of the issues. Get help through a physical therapist to learn the proper form for these exercises

Most of us sit all day and have weak glutes and our knees take the beating

No it doesn't. Shut up.

I think it ages your skin, if that's what the first PP meant.

No. It. Doesn't. You "think" is not support for your argument.

I think some people only have so many years of running in them. I had to stop before I was 30. I used to love it, but it was causing more harm than good. If you are new to running, you have some time to enjoy it. Just do not push it if you feel joint pain.

I’d stick with weights, walking and yoga.

Running sprints is great. Running marathons is terrible for your heart.

I used to be a runner. Over the past two decades I slowly moved from-
running only to
running and Crossfit to
Crossfit and running 2x/week to
weightlifting only (not HIIT) 3x/week, running 1x/week (2-3 miles) and every day walking - I have dogs.

I'm 49 now. This progression suits me well - and through DEXA scans and my own monitoring of my body, I see the impact weight training has had on me vs. running. Weight training, when done properly, does my body so much good - much more than running does. My knees thank me too.

everyone is different. you do you. but be aware that muscle mass does diminish with age, and running isn't going to help with that.
