Yeah because people are getting into Michigan with a 3.8. |
| Unc lol |
You are living in an alternate universe it haven’t had a kid apply to these schools since the 90s. |
Ohio University |
Boulder is a fantastic choice actually. |
What? 3.8 unweighted could be 4.7 weighted. That absolutely could get you into UMD. I say this as a parent of a senior and recent grad. A 3.8 is nearly straight As their whole career! |
Not to mention the cost of attendance is not even close to OP’s desire (roughly equivalent to UMD in-state cost). |
Unweighted, people! Geez. According to this UMich website, the average GPA for an incoming freshman was 3.76. https://smtd.umich.edu/admissions-statistics/ |
Yes I was going to say this as well. My kid has about a 3.85 so far in the most rigorous courses with Bs in math (calc BC), with 10 AP classes. He’s a very competitive student at his school. I think it varies by school to be honest and grading system/grade inflation. Colleges seem to know. |
| OP here- DH and I are Mich alums and even though we loved it, we are excluding from list due to cost. Also we dont have SAT yet but TO is probably likely bades on psat. |
| based on. |
OP here- yes, prob 4.7 just keep hearing how UMD from moco is getting really competitive and want some alternatives. |
| No way I'd pay out of state tuition for most of the schools mentioned here. Apply to other maryland schools. |
| Ok, well OP don’t underestimate your child’s chances. Those grades and rigor are quite good. I had a child get into all of his out of state targets plus UMD with those grades and rigor, plus good extracurriculars. |
lolol! my son just got in Perdue Engineering with a 4.11 weighted. 3.8UW is probably a 4.4+ weighted with all those APs. he also got in spend state and that was a major safety. granted his SATs are 1480 and he submitted. for my son doing engineering both schools were not safeties. however non engineering if the OP had a high W GPA i’m sure they are. i do think going TO in this climate is quite risky. |
