Is anyone's Senior not in anywhere yet?

Anonymous
Mine has two EA acceptances and no RD results yet. I think it's pretty common in mid-January.

You applied to 20 schools? WHY

Our kid (now in college) applied to four. Got into three. Picked one. Done.

If you stick to 2 targets and 2 true safeties (or more safeties) then that strategy works. But if you want to apply to several Reaches/High reaches, you have to include more. Also, if very high stats, you need to include more targets and safeties because you might be yield protected (WL/denied) because they assume you don't really want to attend.

Or if you are trying to fit a budget you may include more targets/safeties in search of better merit $$.

One of mine applied to 4 big public Us -- one in-state target, one in-state safety, two OOS safeties. Got in everywhere went to the target. By this time in senior year I think he'd only heard from two of the schools.

The mainly wanted to go to an OOS LAC so had 5 safeties (of varying level of perceived safety and varying levels of merit likelihood) plus an in-state reach. The safeties all ended up similar in cost after merit awards and it was good for her to have several to pick from.

That said, my kid does have one acceptance at Pitt. Was deferred from ED school. None of the other schools applied to had early action, and she didn’t want to do ED 2 anywhere because she still wants to wait for the first school where she was deferred.

False. My kid has been accepted to:

UMW
Radford
Washington College
ODU
CNU
ECU
Randolph Macon

They are waiting on a dozen others.

Not one school on this is list is impressive. Big deal. Lots of kids can go to nova or Montgomery college too.

Do you feel important now?

Nope. I just don’t get why someone would apply to a ton of schools they aren’t going to go to. Just to get acceptances? Then people wonder why schools have to yield protect.

Congrats! But what is "false" in PP's post?

It was definitely the right strategy for him. He applied to 17 schools with a good mix of (safety, target and reach). They all only had ED, or EDI/EDII and his top choices weren't any that offered EDII.

It just feels weird to hear everyone talking about all these acceptances and he literally has no clue. He could care less though. He is a 35ACT/4.0uw/4.4w at a private so he will get in somewhere, but it feels really weird to not know until mid-late March.

Kind of hard to know, right? I hope you’ll get good news in Feb. April is a long time to wait.

This is great for your kid and it must feel good to have choices, but I'm wondering your thought process. Not being snarky, really trying to learn before my sophomore goes through this. Did you visit them all and think your kid would go, if accepted? Were the applications easy, such that you could do them all? Or did they not feel like "safety" schools and you wanted to cast a wide net?

Don’t sweat it OP, lots of people wait until RD even with amazing stats.

DP. What do you mean 'false'? My kid didn't apply to any of those.

When in Feb.? If it’s Feb. 1st and the next choice is a school with ED2 that notifies in mid-Feb., then apply to that 3rd choice school ED2 (probably not too late to switch an RD app to ED2 if call admissions).

Then if don’t get into 2nd choice EA school Feb. 1st., you already have a pending ED2 application for 3rd choice school.

If do get into 2nd choice EA school around Feb. 1st, then immediately pull the ED2 application for 3rd choice school. You have a right to pull any ED app anytime before notification of acceptance…

February 15th.

PP referred to "most kids." You said your individual kid had a bunch of acceptances and said that the PP's statement was "false." That doesn't follow.

No, you were mocking Radford, ODU, etc.

You applied to 20 schools? WHY

Why do you care?

Dumb question.

Our kid applied to 20 as well. We simply want options and I don't care about paying application fees. Once you apply to a few, additional applications aren't too difficult as some essay topics can be reworked.

It's just casting a wide net in a process that can be somewhat random, always changing, with limited information.

This is fine, but is a choice and not necessary because your kid, like OPs, will be admitted to several schools and have plenty of choices. I appreciate your honestly because so many people are yelling the sky is falling, but it clearly isn't.
