Fun fact of the day, independent private schools make up 40% of student enrollment at most Ivies...where is the equity?

Anonymous
Independent private schools (not the Mary O'Mary's Catholic/parochial school for girls and boys type that middle and lower middle class families send their kids to), comprise 40% of the student body at most Ivy League schools.

No, this is a lie, and the dishonest reference to parochial schools suggests which crowd the lying poster is trying to stir up. Most Ivies currently pull about 60% (give or take) of incoming freshman from public schools. The remaining 40% come from a combination of independent day schools, religious schools, boarding schools, and foreign schools. To the extent that the data are broken down, religious schools comprise about 10% (again, give or take) of incoming freshman at the Ivies (in some instances, a greater share than the independent boarding schools that were traditional Ivy feeders -- so there's equity in action for you).

Sometimes I think there are Russian bots on this site just trying to pick fights. This is all mixed up and the things and people that the poster is trying to draw connections between don’t match up right. Crazy.

I’m sure Chat GPT is getting great things from DCUM, X, and Reddit. What a terrifying mix of opinions.

OMG! My MCPS kid isn’t going to Yale! Must support Trump - that will show them!

Where is the outrage in the name of equity? Where are the protests? The changemakers? Maybe there will be a sit-in at Harvard this admissions season, definitely at Brown. Rise up, no equity, no peace...

Bueller...Bueller...

It was the changemakers who pushed it from 100% to 40%, OP.

Anyway, I doubt you actually care about equity. Maybe go post on the Hillsdale thread.

Many private schools care about DEI so presumably the students coming from those schools are diverse.

Privilege has always been a well trodden path to the ivies, probably used to be the most reliable path and likely filled the majority of the class. It’s been reduced in order to make space for others. What percentage should it be considering these schools are in the business of staying open and need people who can pay full freight?

Actually Harvard has enough money in its endowment that it doesn’t need tuition dollars so that is false.

lol...imagine if colleges made you disclose that you paid $750k to make little Johnny an authentic applicant who added to the vibrant mural of a college's entering class

Who do you think you are OP? If you can't afford it, you can't go. I grew up knowing my parents expected me to pay for college. No help and no loans. That meant being a commuter at a local state school.

They need someone who can pay.

Because these institutions live, breathe and die for DEI. Yet here we are.

They are mocking us.

Put down the crack pipe, Phyllis.

The problem is not that others not high achieving but money paid for essay, creating ECs, legacy, etc.. is used for admission.

Then the schools should be upfront about that why give lip service saying they want diverse group of students and call it DEI

Is this the FOX News version?

Nice try, but the cute bashing of Fox News lost its luster when the Left & their media partners decided it was open season on Jews.

Um, the end of your sentence is the tell there.

…I’m genuinely baffled at what you mean by “the tell”. Telling what? -NP

Highest achieving in what aspect? There are people a lot smarter than you who work on achieving a balanced group of students. There is no simple formula to obtain that.

I can imagine the amount of cheating going on if all that mattered is perfect scores on academic. Or the mental health of the students whose childhood was spent on trying to never make a mistake while having unstable parents breathing down their necks.

People working in admissions offices are not that smart. It is just common sense.
