I’m not sure what there is to be outraged about. 40% is unsurprising. Privilege has always been a well trodden path to the ivies, probably used to be the most reliable path and likely filled the majority of the class. It’s been reduced in order to make space for others. What percentage should it be considering these schools are in the business of staying open and need people who can pay full freight?

If that’s the case then they should lose their non profit status and pay taxes on their endowments and real estate holdings.

The majority of black middle-class kids go to public schools, just like the white and Asian American kids. Private schools are not the pipeline for Black kids to the Ivy league. The majority of Black kids at Ivy league schools are UMC/wealthy kids and/or immigrants.

schools like Harvard have such a large endowment that they don't need to charge tuition, to anyone, for many years.

It's greed and elitism. They throw crumbs out to the "poors" as a show for supporting DEI.

I liken it to Trump's tax cuts: they threw crumbs at the middle class as a show for supporting the middle class, all while the tax cuts made the rich much richer relative to the middle class.
