Parents need to go over Bethel and complain. Email the chancellor directly. They’re aware of issues (prior to this) but they’re not gong to do anything about it unless enough people complain. |
Care to share the horrific details? I have little kids too, and I wonder what it is about Pineda that makes you fear for their safety. |
I assure you, your child's safety isn't in jeopardy. I am not a fan of Pineda and support his removal/resignation but do not spread inflammatory gossip. |
Apparently, there are outstanding accusations of inappropriate touching by a teacher that were / are being mishandled. He leads by fear and manipulation. The teachers are why we are at oyster.
In Pineda's first year, 9 teachers, 1 instructional coach and 1 assistant principal left. After his second year, 8 teachers and 1 counselor left. At this rate, it will be a school with none of the teachers I have heard so much about. I’ve heard replacement teachers can’t speak up bc their status in this country is dependent on him. Awful situation. We are strongly considering leaving. I know at least 7 other families of younger elementary considering leaving too. |
I also have kids at oysters, what details are you referring to? I always thought he was doing fine given the circumstances (post COVID, swing space, etc) and didn't get all of the negativity on here. |
NP. I don’t know anything about allegations of inappropriate touching. However, I have spoken with several veteran teachers (at least 5) who are very unhappy with Pineda’s leadership. I have two OA lifers (one is a graduate and the other is a current student). If you think Pineda is “doing fine,” then you must be very new to the school. He is quite dismissive about problems that need to be addressed (i.e., bullying, inappropriate and/or violent classroom behavior, academic rigor). He has lied to my face about an issue he said he would address (I’m still trying to get this issue resolved). In short, he lacks integrity and leadership skills, and he will blame DCPS for his inability to get things done. |
I’m not being inflammatory. I’m scared for the safety of my children and trying to find information because no one is taking responsibility or sharing information. Are you aware multiple students reported being inappropriately touched by a teacher? (And the teacher is still there, teaching children?) |
This is true. The teacher is in Adams, he was brought to school by Pineda and he is still there. Pineda has lied to many of us, has done nothing to help with violent and bullying behavior at the middle school, has pitted teachers against each other, has denied support to teachers who felt threaten by violent students, etc. etc. The list goes on. He must have a close relationship with Bethel and/or central office to still be where he is, because I know for a fact that many people has sent complaints about him to DCPS. I hope he’s gone for good. We deserve a better leader. |
If this is true please encourage these families to file complaints with the police. A teacher inappropriately touching a child needs to be immediately removed and put on leave until a thorough investigation is done. |
I believe there was a report and investigation of the teacher and nothing was found. Official communication on this particular topic has been nonexistant because apparently it’s not allowed. But then that leaves a vacuum for rumors. It’s not going to go away until it’s addressed head on in some way. |
The school is a hot mess! Terribly unorganized, inefficient communication (they manage to over-communicate and yet not communicate important info at the same time), horrible administration (the APs as well), inconsistent approach to discipline, subpar academics outside of language and a devotion to wokeness on paper that doesn't mean anything in actual fact (as evidenced by how black/brown students are treated). So glad we're out! |
I was at JR when he was assistant principal.
He was a good paper pusher which is why Central liked him. He was happy to fill any teacher vacancies quickly with any warm body he could find just so he could report to Central that he took action and all teacher vacancies in his department were already taken care of. He didn’t care about quality at all. He had no rapport with students. Many of us were shocked when he was promoted to principal |
It has been reported to the police, but the teacher is still in school. |
Which grade and subject? |
Considering the teacher was investigated and allowed to return to the classroom, it seems very vile to ask for them to be identified. Is this thread about the teacher or the principal? |
