I like Kate's new, more casual look. She definitely doesn't look like herself, so I'm looking forward to reading how much DCUM hates her hair for the next 30 or so pages. |

Are we going for a modern European royal family now? Nothing to see but a young family in jeans in a mall?
I think that’s inevitable but didn’t realize they did too— they will probably have to give up things like claiming the bank accounts of people who die without heirs. |
It’s a nice picture but the background is weird. |
I like how kate has updated her style since the queens passing. Painted nails, more styling outfits, darker brows, longer hair. I think she looks amazing! |
Lol Yes! |
Air brushed to the gods. Looks like a sears portrait. The kids are adorable but weird to include the polo logo. |
Omg that’s exactly what I thought when I saw this. |
Really? I think she is trending toward looking just like one of those basic moms who follows an off-brand influencer wannabe. Her former style was so much more classic and distinguished. |
Very 2004 |
I would have switched the boys. I feel like the little guy is too far back and it shrinks him some. |
They are a lovely family and this is not a personal criticism of them. I even think Kate's hair looks fine this length!
But I can't stand this style of family portrait. If you are going to do a studio portrait like this, dress up. The casual clothing does not match the setting, which is formal, and feels incongruous to me. In previous years, they have either done photos in casual clothes in non-studio settings, or studio photos in more formal clothes. Either is a better option. The matching outfits are horrible to me. It's the kind of thing you do when you have no resources to compose complimentary looks for everyone. That's not the case here. So why? And the outfit they chose is SO devoid of interest or personality. Why why why? I also dislike having everyone straight to camera with the same expression. It makes the photo feel dead and lifeless. The most interesting person in the photo is George, with his face at a slight angle and his closed-lip smile instead of the "cheese!" grin everyone else has. It makes him look interesting and the rest of them look generic. They look photogenic, but dull. They usually do a great job with these photos and I know Kate has an eye for photography as it's a hobby for her and she's good at it. So this is a real disappointment. Hopefully they'll return to form with the next one. |
The UK is not in a good place right now economically and people are under a lot of stress. Living standards have taken a serious dive and the posh twits running the Tory government are pretty universally loathed. It's hard for us Americans to understand how rigid the class divides are on that side of the pond and how long and deep the resentments are. I think this card is an effort not to be tone deaf or rub anyone's noses in it. "Look at us in our pricey coordinated designer outfits" is not the statement they want to make. I think the shopping mall photo shoot look is very deliberate. |
Cute fam, but I hate the photo!! It’s so dull and blah in black & white. |
It’s awful. I was shocked this was their Christmas photo. |
