Driving today is like a death match

Irresponsible for you to speculate like that.

e
DP. WTF?

What person who is paying attention to the road, blows through children in a crosswalk? I would strongly bet the person was on their phone.

It is utterly irresponsible for you to speculate and jump to conclusions. Two children are dead. Have some goddamn respect.

You are either a troll, or someone truly committed to supporting texting while driving.

NO one is making light of the fact that two children were senselessly killed by an irresponsible and distracted driver. And cell phones are a BIG contributor to distracted driving.

It’s amazing how you have no actual knowledge of the case but have already convicted the driver of distracted driving. Wow.

Maybe you should sit the rest of this thread out.

Someone call the PG cops and tell them there's no need to investigate, because some war-on-cars jerk sitting in his parent's basement in Palisades already knows what happened.

How is it irresponsible? How is it disrespectful to the 2 children who were killed by the driver at an elementary school?

Speculation and jumping to conclusions in any circumstance like this is wildly inappropriate and irresponsible. Only someone who is truly stupid wouldn’t understand that. Are you stupid?

At some point investigators will revel what happened. But you have no idea and what you think or assumed happened may very well might not have.

So cool it.

Can we get back to talking about how two children were killed by a driver this morning in front of an elementary school? And how this is a thing that is not supposed to happen? And how we need to make big changes, fast - to the roads, to the cars, to the driver behavior - so that it doesn't happen again?

How about you let the investigation finish first?

Jesus.

Why? Here's what we know:

fact: 2 children
fact: killed by a driver
fact: at an elementary school

I think that's plenty of facts to start with.

I don’t, since you are seeking policy solutions.

Policy solutions? We already have those. The problem is that we're not implementing them.

Either the driver was distracted or… what? They were paying attention? Are you saying they hit the kids intentionally?

Here’s a hot tip for drivers:

If you’re driving by a f***ing elementary school, assume there are kids there and SLOW DOWN and PAY ATTENTION!

Crossing guards would be great, but why are they even necessary?

Why are kids crossing a street without a crossing guard?

You know the majority of schools don’t have a crossing guard right?
Crossing guards are for the privileged few.

We walk to/from school and people will NOT stop to let us cross. Drivers 100% see us, start to slow and then change their minds because apparently, 45 seconds is too insurmountable for their day. Its a T-intersection and only the one road has a stop sign but all directions should have a stop sign with flashing pedestrian lights and cameras for when people dont stop. I wish they would make pedestrian signs that flashed and when hit by a pedestrian turned all lights to STOP signs.

PG county has even more of a burden to increase pedestrian safety BECAUSE they wont provide busing for students that live close. I think its 1.5 mile radius for our local elementary. We have no crossing guard at the intersection we cross but the annex 1/2mile up the same street has one for HS students.

Isn't it dangerous for both cars and pedestrians if cars are stopping in the middle of a road? Seems like the car would get rear ended and the pedestrians still hit.

We have a road like this near our house where people are just jaywalking to school daily and it's dangerous for everyone. IMO the pedestrians should either walk to the light and cross or wait until cars go past to cross.

ITS A PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALK WITH SIGNS LADY!!!!!!!

I agree that a 3 way stop would be best. Or a crossing guard. Without a crossing guard, cars don't always know to stop (we're in a multicultural area and barely anyone knows specific state rules on driving. They just automatically give people drivers licenses.)

This is awful. I am so heartbroken for these kid's families.

We walk to school every day and have to cross a busy road. It's insane how many drivers feel entitled to ignore the cross walk sign or just in general drive way too fast when small children JUST passed your car. People will speed by when we've just barely made it, some people will go 40 MPH until the cross walk and then slam on their brakes. Some will think they can make it through "real quick", meanwhile I am yanking my 8 year old's jacket to keep him out of the road while this person attempts to race the light.

You can speculate all kinds of things. It seems pretty shitty though when people died and you have no fcking clue what happened.

It's being reported that the driver is affiliated with the school - not sure if it is another parent, a staff member or something else.

EXACTLY. There were a couple of days where the only time we got across was because a cop- in a marker or unmarked car- stopped and put their lights on. This is in a residential area, but because of the 3 schools within 0.5mile radius and morning commutes, it is busy. There is no waiting for no cars and if they would drive the speed limit, we could go across even with cars in sight but the cars go 35-50mph and I refuse to teach my kid to take a chance....so we wait for all cars to come to a stop and we make eye contact and wave thanks once we cross.
People have honked at other cars who have stopped. Its ridiculous.

Because they are walking to school.

I know that two kids were killed by a car in front of their school in broad daylight.

People need to take the responsibility of driving SERIOUSLY.

My response got messed up.

This is a crosswalk where we are crossing. It has the white lines and yellow signs with an arrow pointing. It is a pedestrian crosswalk. I am not jawalking with my child. It is in a residential area.
And I dont give a f%%% what language you speak or culture you come from, you stop for people walking because you have a heavy vehicle that can kill and if you dont, you should have your license revoked.
