The allure of Duke?

There is minuscule (if any) difference between a T15 and a T10.

So why say 15 when it's actually T10

The bolded is correct. Beautiful scenery, great weather overall, lots of school spirit especially, great academics and research, close for travel to other southern schools and cities.

We also have lots of smart kids EDing Duke this year in our area… don’t blame them, Duke would be a killer outcome

Said me, forever.

That southern culture can be a bit much for kids used to Washington. It’s suffocating. We out-of-staters hung together.

Well bless your heart. I am an OOS Tar Heel. We definitely didn’t hang.

How many years ago? Duke actually has one of the best diversity makeup of the top schools.

Only 40% white, 20% Asian, 10% black, 10% Hispanic… etc.

Looking at their acceptance rate in yield, it has some type of appeal. My kid doesn’t have time to research every school in depth. but right now is going with some of what he knows, and some of what is popular with other students (who likely have done research). if/when he gets in, we’ll figure it out

there’s no point in hating on a school, unless you know your kid can’t get in and you’re just expressing sour grapes.

Northerners ruin everything.

I understand Duke is a great school, but it's a fairly larger percentage of her grade EDing there with all things considered. Having spoken with other parents, it seems like this is a trend at many of the local private schools in the area. Is there anything super special about Duke that's attracting a lot of early applicants this year?

I'd be curious whether Naviance/SCOIR supports this sort of decision? At our private, the only people who get into Duke are athletes.
