Some stores are doing away with self checkouts

I'm a boomer who loves self check out.

I only go self checkout. Saves time and cuts lines. It's the best. Who wants a line of angry impatient people behind you who look like they want to stab you for taking up a few minutes?

Also sams club and amazon fresh has an app that allows you to ring up items as you shop and then pay at the end. No line no self checkout! It's the best

Oh, please. This OP is Big Boomer energy, regardless of the poster’s chronological age.

Yeah, the screeching about "I don't work for the store though! " is really just embarrassing at this point. Self check-out is great. Fast, easy, no awkward interactions with a bored cashier. I rarely get errors or need assistance. It is possible.

No one is screeching. They are sharing opinions in a message board, so no voice to hear volume of.
Why is an opinion on this matter embarrassing. There isn't anything unseemly about sharing an opinion re:this subject.
Self check out isn't faster by default. Why would it be. A line is a line.
If the cashier doesn't want to chat, you don't chat, not awkward.
The fact that you do not generate errors or need assistance doesn't mean self check out benefits you in the long run.
What is "possible"? Your post does not define what "It" is.

Self checkouts have lines.

I just want Costco to give me the scan gun to use in my cart rather than unloading. Why do only employees get to use it?

I didn't stutter. I said 'cuts lines'. The latter doesn't have any lines because you're shopping and paying on an app.

You said self checkout "saves time and cuts lines"--a definitive statement
It doesn't be default do either.
Most self checkouts are accessed though a line.
They do not save time. they are still access one person at a time, just like a cashier-manned line.

I’m not a boomer and I hate self checkout. If I have to show my ID to buy NyQuil, just let me show it to the cashier and not wait for someone to see my flashy light!

Stores are also doing this to stop shrinkage which raises prices for everyone.

Frankly I would love you to have to scan your phone to enter the store and let RFID tech know what you bought and walked out the store with. Some stores are like this but not enough yet.

Because customers don't scan ALL the items in their cart. Duh.

Thank god; I had self check-out; my kids love them though. I think stores need to bring back a better balance between self-checkout and regular cashier check-out.

I’m a boomer who has been using self checkout (prefer the hand scanners) since it was available. I’ll even do the funky Whole Foods sensor checkout. Way faster.

I resent what amounts to working for the store and not being compensated as an employee. So I pay myself by stealing a few items.

Anonymous wrote:When our local Costco got rid of self-checkout, I stopped shopping there. The line for regular checkout was all the way to the back of the store. Ridiculous.

We have at least 8 self-checkout stations iat our Costco

Made me laugh. 😅😅

I don’t outwardly steal, but I sure as hell pick the cheapest apples, peppers, and other produce options. I damn sure don’t bother searching for Honey Crisp apples when the cheaper Red Delicious option is right there.

Also, I never charge myself for bags. There’s no way in hell I’m doing that at self checkout.

The Whole Foods and the Giant in Arlington video you during self-checkout. No thanks!
