Yeah, the screeching about "I don't work for the store though! " is really just embarrassing at this point. Self check-out is great. Fast, easy, no awkward interactions with a bored cashier. I rarely get errors or need assistance. It is possible. :wink:[/quote]

No one is screeching. They are sharing opinions in a message board, so no voice to hear volume of. 
Why is an opinion on this matter embarrassing. There isn't anything unseemly about sharing an opinion re:this subject. 
Self check out isn't faster by default. Why would it be. A line is a line.
If the cashier doesn't want to chat, you don't chat, not awkward. 
The fact that you do not generate errors or need assistance doesn't mean self check out benefits you in the long run.
