Some stores are doing away with self checkouts

Great! If stores aren’t going to do this, I wish they would decommission the (many, vacant) checkout lanes; they’re an eyesore and a waste of space!

Self checkout needs to go.

I love self checkout. I can't remember the last time I've used a cashier. The Safeway I go to the most fixed their scales so there is never the issue of not recognizing items. You can just wand everything in your cart and never put it on the scale. I love it.

Yeah, the screeching about "I don't work for the store though! " is really just embarrassing at this point. Self check-out is great. Fast, easy, no awkward interactions with a bored cashier. I rarely get errors or need assistance. It is possible.

No, it really doesn't.

Self checkout is the best. Fast and efficient. Only boomers hate self check out.

I was doing self checkout at Giant I’m Cathedral Commons and were all glitching. There were 4 people at once just “waiting for assistance”, the poor guy working there was getting a marathon in.

When our local Costco got rid of self-checkout, I stopped shopping there. The line for regular checkout was all the way to the back of the store. Ridiculous.

Costco misses you. Not!

Me too. I want giant to go back to the ones with conveyors so I can check out a full cart.

I hope the stores that get rid of them hire more cashiers and train them. The main reason I do not like going to cashiers is 9 out of 10 times they just haphazardly throw the groceries in bags.

Seriously? I hate it, and I'm no boomer. Stupid CVS self-checkout where they have to check ID for buying OTC medicine? At a PHARMACY? Annoying.

Yes, I like these. You can leave heavy items in the cart, which speeds things up. In general, I always opt for self scan, unless I have too many items.

I think PP is talking about stores that give you the scanner in the beginning so you scan as you go, then self checkout. That’s what keeps me loyal to giant; they are the best.

cashiers no longer bag so much easier to use self checkout instead of letting all the groceries pile up while cashier waits for customer to. bag.

I love it, too!
