"Presented by kittens" - that's fantastic.

12:49 is referring to mel's movie from a few years ago.

Does everyone really think that was real audio? It sounded really fake to me. Especially "mel gibson's" voice. The word emphasis and flow was all wrong.

Don't get me wrong - his last tirade convinced me he's a jerk, but these tapes sound phony to me.

And who knows what people will be saying about Mel Gibson in two thousand years' time? Perhaps Braveheart and Mad Max III - Beyond Thunderdome - will be remembered, long after these recent unfortunate lapses are buried beneath the sands of time....

So to all those who mock Mel Gibson, just remember - the Pharisees of their time mocked Jesus. And we know how that turned out....

Yeah, and maybe the untold story about Pol Pot was that he was a great actor. So maybe Gibson is really like Pol Pot.

Christ = crucified

Gibson = crucified (by the court of public opinion)

Mel? Is that you? Are you one of the crazy posters on DCUM?

Nah, just one of the anti-Catholic bigots who thinks it's clever to bash others under the cover of anonymity. Today she's on the Mater Dei thread, too.

I'm not even Catholic, but I find her offensive.

My thoughts on Mel:
He was a major hottie when I was in college, and probably the only actor I really ever had a crush on. I thought it was so wonderful that he was married with all those kids, never in the tabloids, and just seemed like a great guy. I had heard about the recurrent problem with alcoholism, however, but no one's perfect.
Fast forward and he is a train wreck!!! I do wonder if his wife had a lot more to deal with than his drinking. Did she stay with him for the kids, being a "good catholic"?
He's such a mess now, and I think he was wasted when he was verbally abusing the GF about her fake tits. I don't see how he can fix this whole thing....

Are you suggesting that Mel Gibson has died for us, so that we may be saved? He has sacrified himself so that we may live? Interesting.

No, of course not. That would be ridiculous. But:

Christ sacrificed his life so that we may live.

Is is a stretch to believe that Mel Gibson sacrificed his reputation, so that we may keep ours?

Now, I am not condoning his latest outburst, but which of us can put our hand on our hearts and say we have never wanted to address a police officer as "sugar-tits"?

Ah, got it. You're being facetious. (deep sigh of relief)

You know who else had a passion?

Jesus Christ.

Wow. Glenn Beck posts on DCUM! Who knew?

Jewish lady who was extremely offended the first time around here: Now it's serious because he (allegedly but, you know, probably) caused significant bodily harm to a specific person, endangered another (tiny) person in the process, and sure sounds like he'd do it again if given half a chance. That automatically makes this round of offensive and crazy much more grave.

Totally agree - something's definitely wrong with those tapes. And the way she sounds in them is sort of.. rehearsed. Too calm, if you know what i mean. Like she's reading from a script or something. And, mind you, she never calls him a bad word, not even once, never raises her voice or shows any type of emotion. Granted, she knew they were being taped, but still..

I also think these tapes are fake.

I am sorry-everyone has had some kind of espisode somewhere that they said some kind of stupid thing--he was obviously in a bad relationship with a woman who trapped him and he was acting out--wrong yes but to paint the "racist" brush..I don't like that. I felt the same way when Alec Baldwin got caught "losing it" with his daughter-eveyone was so offended but really?? You can't remember once in your life where a parent lost it and said "out of bounds" things?

There's only one way to say this. That's a pile of crap. Sure, we all have moments of which we're not proud, but for those of us who maintain a shred of belief in personal responsibility, our "episodes" are a lot more benign. Yes, mental issues would by definition explain the crazy coming out of that man, but people are always responsible for their behavior.

I think it's important to remember that he also strayed into "sticks and stones" territory. Ranting and insults are one thing, however vile they might be, but concussions and broken teeth are quite another. Whether or not his ex had "trapped him" (whatever that means where adults with free will and... ahem... personal responsibility are concerned), there's no way "acting out" can be re-purposed from it's legitimate use describing toddler behavior to explain what he did.

yes, anti-semitizm is awful. But you laugh at the anti-catholic stuff? I really, really hope you're not one of the people posting it.

I think this is a critical piece in explaining the strong reaction now. Everything he's said before and this time are terribly offensive and words are powerful, but the fact that the GF was holding his infant at the time puts a picture of hatred in people's minds. I do think that images are more powerful than words. My rational brain recognizes that the real evil is in what he's saying, but it's hard not to have strong emotional reactions when I imagine the scene.
