If your child got into a T25 in the last 2 years

looks like an impossible feat to have straight A's with all 7 APs in 12th grade.

Just trying to understand what’s really possible. Our school’s SCOIR data includes students from many years ago.

4.66 with 12 or 13 APs. LCPS.
No. Submitted 1420 SAT.
No real hook. But Virginia resident. Admitted to UVA.
Applied EA, I think. She applied to Brown ED and was initially deferred and then ultimately rejected. (Which I was secretly happy about).

Lol being from VA is a major hook for UVA. Duh.

I said the same and she had all UVA posts deleted.

Pp here. I did not. I prefer the bitter shrew harpies to be on display. Someone else must have reported the threads because Jeff has made at least two rounds of deletions and I imagine he’s tired of that shit by now.

I haven't even posted on this thread, prior to this posting. But while reading it I thought all the discussion about UVA and whether it is or is not in the top 25, 26, 27 yada yada was completely OFF TOPIC, which it is. Besides it's dull. So I reported it.

How about this, tell us your kid's stats and we will tell you if it is possible.

+1. Much faster. Give us your kid's stats as well as what state they are in and what type of school they are attending (public, independent, parochial). We will chance them.

Ok
4.0 UW / 4.7 W
1560 SAT (one time , no superscore)
5s on AP exams taken so far
12 APs , plus 2 years post BC Calc math (multi var calc and DifEq / linear Alg)
4 years varsity in one sport (but not recruited)
National qualifier in an academic Ec
Exceptional ECs in 2 areas w lots of initiative/ leadership and service

NP.. my DC had higher stats, but they were rejected at T25.

It's the essays. There are a gazillion students with great stats.

The essays are where it's at. It's the chance to shine. Some rise to the occasion. Some don't. It's the only place where you can get a an app reader to argue for you at the table. People ignore that at their peril.

Also, remember when people say STEM in the college context it is far broader than CS and computer engineering!

FWIW, it is very possible to have a 4.7 -- indeed above a 4.8 -- in MCPS.
And to get all As with a heavy AP schedule.
Perhaps something limiting the postings to FCPS was deleted, but I didn't see anything saying where those posting GPAs were from.

It's a recurring problem on this board -- without knowing what school system posters come from, it is frequently impossible to give an accurate evaluation or answer, since the one thing every admissions presentation we went to emphasized is that applicants are judged in light of what their schools offer.

Anonymous wrote:The obsession with weighted GPA on here is ridiculous. I guess it’s because that’s what Naviance uses in its chart? But no school is admitting the 4.6 over the 4.3. It depends far more on what the kid took for classes and what else the kid did. Stats are pretty useless.

Most schools recalculate GPAs anyway.

Example of why this kind of thread is pointless. My kid had similar stats but is a Majority Male CS applicant and was not admitted to any T15.

You know what though, he is at a T15 for CS with a scholarship so I guess all is not lost.

M or F
Interested in STEM or nonSTEM
The stats are high enough…no college cares about a 1600 vs a 1560.

If M and non-STEM, competitive at any school.

There is no such thing as Exceptional ECs…there are “real” ECs like competitive debate and BS ECs like Honor Society. Tons that are in between at which a kid can do exceptional things even though the EC is nothing unusual.

Female
Real ECs - like debate , robotics , service, research, sports
Has diverse interests - could be STEM plus something non-STEM

Real ECs? People have gone bat sh*t crazy around here. Truly.

STEM for females has much higher admission chances, in general.

Not for biology or neuroscience: those are female majors.
