People watching their phones with volume on full

Toddlers or their mothers? Who’s making the decisions here. And I’ve never seen an older person blasting their phone for any reason.

Then you have not been to an airport or doctor's office in about a decade. The over 60 crowd is blasting phones at volume 11 at all times in these spaces. Never go to physical therapy if you want to maintain your streak.

^^ and yes their millenial children can't seem to buy headphones for their toddlers.

I currently live in a country where that is 100% normal and not considered disrespectful at all. No one thinks twice about having their volume on in a public place and it appears no one except me is annoyed and irritated and distracted by a buzz of many people on their phones with the volume up high playing games, watching videos, talking on speaker...

It drives me bananas and I have zero issue with getting on the microphone and asking them to turn the volume to a level only they can hear. (Most of them will argue about it.) If I can hear it in the front with all the fans blowing and general noise, then it's TOO LOUD! I think this falls squarely under the category of "things you shouldn't need to be told."

Thank you for doing that. The MARC conductors told me I have to talk to the person myself first before asking them to intervene.

I very quietly asked the guy once to put on some headphones because he was watching YouTube right next to me. HE scoffed at me and ignored me. Then I very loudly said, "you know you are disturbing everyone in this train car, right!!???" He turned it off then.

Though I was on a flight the other day and the guy next to me was doing this and the flight attendant told him he had to turn it down and she would try to find headphones. I was impressed that she actually tried to enforce the rule.

Then again, I think I prefer this to the girl in the airport bathroom who just had to get the perfect Instagram selfie and block the sinks. Why do you need a photo of yourself in a public restroom? Its crazy.

American now announces you have to wear headphones. Flew Sunday and that was the first time I heard that. No clue if they enforce it but it’s a start.

Heard this, too, on an American flight over the weekend. At first I thought it was an odd announcement, and then I encountered multiple people listening without headphones and though “kudos to American!” Sadly on one flight the announcement was ignored by not 1 but 2 people near me.

My family just took a cross country flight and I was appalled by all the people talking on speaker. What is the benefit to them or the person they're talking to? The sound quality is better if you put the phone to your ear! I was also stuck next to a guy who was playing a game with the volume on before we took off. Thank god the wifi was out on the flight--otherwise I suspect he would have played it for the full 5 hour flight!

Nope - I hop up and tell them I'm done and will not pay for PT in that situation.

You sound very sprightly for someone requiring PT

Seriously. I’ve seen mostly teenagers and millenials doing this.

You guys, millennials are 40. If you want to throw shade on people in their early 20s, you need to stop saying “millennials”, it makes you seem even older than you are!

Funny! For me it’s always the young men and women (late teens probably). And then, for some reason, Black men. I work in a medical center so I see a lot of people in the waiting room each day.

I commute on Metro five days a week. I never noticed the volume issue until Covid struck. I figured the offenders had started cranking the volume when they were the only riders in the car and now--post-pandemic--they're just continuing the trend. . . .

I was the PP who mentioned that the flight attendant enforced it. This was on Frontier.

That's because their special snowflakes all have special needs and can't bear to wear headphones. Wait for it, someone will post about this shortly.
