People watching their phones with volume on full

They are completely self-engrossed in what they want and they don't notice other people or care what they think. We have become a nation of self-centered individuals, most of whom only think about themselves and don't think about anyone else.

This, above.

And sadly, if you try to ask politely that they turn down the volume, you possibly risk a confrontation or much worse. The days are gone when you could have pointed out, "I'm sorry, would you mind turning down the volume?" and they would have been sheepish and realized they were a nuisance, and would have turned it down. Try that now and you're risking who knows what response.

I once sat in the quiet car on Amtrak with my ear phones in my ears but unbeknownst to me unplugged. Meaning I was watching a movie with full volume in the quiet car. People were glaring at me and I had no idea why. Finally someone new got on the train and politely asked me to listen with ear phones. I was so confused but finally figured it out. I was like, “oh my gosh y’all could have told me sooner thwt is so obnoxious of me, I’m sorry” and everyone laughed. I couldn’t understand why no one pointed it out to me earlier.

Toddlers or their mothers? Who’s making the decisions here. And I’ve never seen an older person blasting their phone for any reason.

You haven’t met my 76 year old mom, who takes every phone call on speakerphone, even in public.

Yeah, this is every morning and evening on the commuter rail in Boston but always in Spanish. Dominican game shows, Dominican talk shows, news from the DR. Keep it classy, Dominicans.

Every. Single. Day. while standing in a grocery store or any other store line. That and talking to someone on speaker phone the whole time we are waiting in line.

Nope - I hop up and tell them I'm done and will not pay for PT in that situation.

It’s so annoying and inconsiderate! There was a lady doing this at a brunch at a fairly nice restaurant.

This happens on the Metro all the time. And yes, airports. Though I was on a flight the other day and the guy next to me was doing this and the flight attendant told him he had to turn it down and she would try to find headphones. I was impressed that she actually tried to enforce the rule.

Then again, I think I prefer this to the girl in the airport bathroom who just had to get the perfect Instagram selfie and block the sinks. Why do you need a photo of yourself in a public restroom? Its crazy.

American now announces you have to wear headphones. Flew Sunday and that was the first time I heard that. No clue if they enforce it but it’s a start.

They do! I fly them weekly and have seen flight attendants mention it to violators.

Southwest Airlines won my undying loyalty by announcing that everyone -- including kids-- must wear headphones if they want to have their volume up on their devices. Then they enforced it. God luv em!

Seriously. I’ve seen mostly teenagers and millenials doing this.

Oh please. Plenty of English crap online full blast down here. Rudeness is universal.

What is wrong with these people. Why do they think we want to hear this? Can someone please explain?

I agree — it’s so rude! Wear some fking headphones.

I drive a bus and it always gob smacks me when people do this in public. About 98% of them are middle aged men (any race). It drives me bananas and I have zero issue with getting on the microphone and asking them to turn the volume to a level only they can hear. (Most of them will argue about it.) If I can hear it in the front with all the fans blowing and general noise, then it's TOO LOUD! I think this falls squarely under the category of "things you shouldn't need to be told."
