That’s going to take them a long time to round up all of the Republicans. |
Why not just return DC to MD? |
Here are two of the many reasons: 1. DC doesn't want it 2. MD doesn't want it |
And you think the House GOP is going to do it? Literally the only reason they want to rescind DC home rule is to hamstring DC's ability to do anything for itself so the House GOP can neglect DC, make DC worse, then point to DC and say "see, look at these urban liberal hellholes!" |
| So, tell me again why Congress overturned DC’s crime bill? Oh yeah, so they could set in motion plans to abolish DC’s local government — after doing everything they could to hamper the effective and independent functioning of (yep) DC’s local government. |
| Why not just cease federal taxation in Washington, DC? Property values would skyrocket and I could finally get that stupid political slogan off my license plate. |
All they have to do is point to any other major city in the US. Don’t need DC to illustrate how awful Democratic policies are. |
| Take over DC until it's back under civil control, send the military |
Yeah, the economic powerhouses of our nation are so awful. All those sky-high property values are so awful. You know why you can't point to any Republican run cities that are crime-free utopias? Because the educated people live in cities and know that while Democratic policies may not be perfect, Republican policies are even worse. Imagine how ignorant you'd have to be to look at decades of failed Republican policies - handouts to the rich, denying healthcare, denying bodily autonomy, killing jobs, screwing the poor, racking up debt, and believing THAT is what's going to improve things in our cities. |
Love it. A liberal referencing “bodily autonomy” - would bet anything she was for vaccine mandates. |
And for closing public schools. And against charters and vouchers. |

EHN warned a long time ago that the Council should be careful not to open the door to this. I thought it seemed a bit dramatic at the time but clearly she had a point.
As crime and issues in DC worsen, the Council is on a 2 month paid holiday. Terrible optics. The census of held juveniles has NOT increased since the passage of Pinto's emergency crime bill, more change is needed. |
Lol yes the Jan6th’ers are now going to impose law and order! |
The House just went on a long vacation and can not pass anything. So now they are going to govern DC? Right! Those clowns will just steal the money. |
What is shocking to me is that it was known by Bowser admin and made clear in reports to Council that the majority of arrests were not being prosecuted by USAO as of 2017 and that only increased over next to admins to 67% no paper rate now. There was no oversight, pressure to prosecute, etc. Graves has made a lot of excuses for 67% no paper rate but when he removed prosecutorial discretion in Chinatown cases, the prosecution rates soared to pre-cv levels, with same lab problems, MPD & cameras, etc. That "pilot project" followed his being called to the Hill and teams threatening to leave Cap One arena. Seems to be an issue with staff, who carry over across Obama, Trump and Biden administrations and lack of oversight by the various USAOs. Prior to 2017 the prosecution rates were fairly stable. DC is a complete outlier even amongst Democratic major cities. Why did Bowser and Council not raise the alarm then? As crime soared? Conduct hearings, demand DOJ oversight? Instead, the Council wrote weaker laws, some of which were blocked by Congress. Population is declining, businesses are leaving, it really is like old times. |
