Take off a week in school year to go to disney

I have heard mid-May. You basically want to avoid any school break or long weekend. But also check for Disney events. There are crowd calendars you can look up online.

Why are parents of singletons also the biggest sticks in the mud.

My parents did the same thing with me and my sister.

And they were also smug a-holes about it?

My post was factual, not smug.

But, no one asked. You’re only sharing to be smug. And an a-hole.

And if they miss a pop quiz, they’ll fail it. As they should.

Good thing none of my kids have ever had a pop quiz in elementary….

Absolutely false. Took my children (now very productive, college graduates and gainfully employed adults) to Disney twice when they were in ES. Education is a top priority. So is family. And life experience. And joy.

Family and life experience and joy can happen without taking kids out of school for a week for Disney.

And it can happen during school...both can happen at the same time

And if it happens during school, you’re sending the message to your kids that school isn’t that important. It’s not like kids don’t get school breaks.

If my kids are getting the message that family bonding and joy are more important than school they will have gotten the right message exactly.

Or you can teach them that all of that can happen without them missing school.

I’m happy my kids know the tireless grind of school and then work is not the most important thing.

OP asked if people take their kids out. I answered it.

We always went one of those weird McPS weekends where they have a planning or religious holiday and then added on one more day or two, which makes a nice 4-5 day trip. Fly down Friday, fly back Tuesday or Wednesday evening.

It’s just so obnoxious. There is post after post and thread after thread on the Montgomery county schools forum on this website where parents are moaning and groaning and complaining about the education declining, kids falling behind during Covid, teachers being slackers, everything is terrible relating to the schools, yet when a parent says they wanna take the kids out for a week to take them to a goddamn amusement park the reaction by other parents is to slap them on the back and say YOLO?

There is a reason why Disney is less crowded when school is in session. Because good parents send their kids to school!

Is it possible to have four "top priorities"?

A failed elementary school pop quiz...the horrors!!! No one's ever come back from that!

Guess I'm a bad parent. What ever will I do with this crushing revelation?

They don't have to. All kids are given until the final days of the quarter to hand in their work. It's all online. Everyone is spoon-fed. Everyone is given until the 11th hour.

Everyone 'succeeds'.

Sure, it *can*. But sometimes, we choose to do it a different way. *shrug*

I think a week is too long but if you can do 2-3 days around a weekend, I don't think it's a big deal in elementary. But I think a week at Disney is too long at any time of year so YMMV.
