Take off a week in school year to go to disney

Anonymous
We went several years ago in late October. It aligned with some no-school days so that we were there about 4-5 days but only missed one day of school. It was great weather, and not very crowded. I don't think it was warm enough that we wanted to go to the pool.

If you do that you have lost all rights to complain about the quality of your kids’ education, their teachers, the school system, etc ever again. You’re making very clear (both to the school and your kids) that education isn’t a top priority.

Absolutely false. Took my children (now very productive, college graduates and gainfully employed adults) to Disney twice when they were in ES. Education is a top priority. So is family. And life experience. And joy.

Family and life experience and joy can happen without taking kids out of school for a week for Disney.

It’s not about whether they’ll struggle academically. It’s about the message it sends about priorities.

I'm a teacher. As long as you don't ask me to do additional work or make spacial arrangements for your kids, why would i care? Your kids will just be marked absent and will get no credit for missed work. It's not like your kids are in the hospital or some such situation.

And it can happen during school...both can happen at the same time

And if it happens during school, you’re sending the message to your kids that school isn’t that important. It’s not like kids don’t get school breaks.

Why are parents of singletons also the biggest sticks in the mud.

And if they miss a pop quiz, they’ll fail it. As they should.

If my kids are getting the message that family bonding and joy are more important than school they will have gotten the right message exactly.

Or you can teach them that all of that can happen without them missing school.

My post was factual, not smug.
