Late 60's is not old.

Vegas will be a crisp very soon. Not a good investment at all if you like access to water.

Vegas in winter can be brutal. It’s windy all.the.time. And, it is not that warm.

Is she safe to travel east independently for you to assess? Might it not be better for you or one of your siblings to go to her and take her to her doctor?

OP here: they put in an offer to buy a home today. After we had a calm 30 minute conversation yesterday about how they wanted to rent.

What the f#ck. They insist they are not selling their current home. Not sure what to think at this point….other adult children agree that something feels “off” about all of this.

Wow. Something's not right. Who is pushing this thing? Are they getting scammed by someone? Do they not remember the conversation from yesterday? You need to call again and be really blunt about this.

The violent crime rate in Las Vegas is identical to where they live now.

Yeah, the idea that moving to Vegas makes them safer is laughable (and no, the violence is in no way confined to only the strip. It’s in residential areas too).

Agree with this.

Seems they likely will be selling home, as retirees can they qualify for another mortgage? So just avoiding saying so. I think they have their plan and don't want to hear it from adult kids so just say what they think you all want to hear.

I'd try to find out if there is a 3rd party influence of some sort.

You clearly have never lived there and do not know what you are talking about.

Sounds like they’re tired of their kids’ meddling and tired of California. My mom was like that too before she relocated to Vegas.

Is the 55+ where they are moving a continuing care community where they can remain in place no matter how much care they eventually need?
If my parents wanted to move into one of those, it could be on the Moon for all I care. I would be so happy.

I like my eargo hearing aids. I bought them on line. They give discounts for veterans. The hearing test is from your cell phone. They are reasonably priced.
Ideally you could talk to step Dad and see if you could buy a pair to bring with you on visit and set up.

Beach areas are notorious for drifters, transients and crime.

I'm 62. One couple I know moved to Ecuador to retire. Another couple in their late 60's are moving to Australia. Many couples in their 60's relocate.

Your parents will be trapped indoors in Vegas for half the year because it is so hot.

Crime is too high everwhere, we need to crack down on these people and their communities
